Head coach of FC Porto Francesco Farioli says he talked Nigeria international defender Zaidu Sanusi out of a January move to an unnamed team in the English Premier League, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.

Zaidu who has been at the team since 2020 when he joined from Santa Clara pushed for an exit after losing his spot in the team, following his return from a long injury layoff picked up while on international duty with Nigeria.

Farioli said he talked the 28 year old out of the move, and explained why he hasn’t seen a lot of game lately.

“It has to do with the plan. Had three good games, Moura played a good game with Sporting. With Benfica we had the opportunity to have Martim and Alberto”, he explained before their 3-0 win over Moreirense.

“I am very happy with Zaidu’s performances, in January when there was the possibility of heading to the Premier League, I had a conversation with him, if he was happy to be here, I was always happy with his attitude, the ability to help and his answer was clear, he said he was happy to stay and have a squad in the team.

“He waited for his opportunity, which came weeks later. He is progressing very well, he is one of the players who are exemplary. He is a player who is adored by the fans. He’s a player with a lot of energy,” he concluded.
