On loan from Swiss side FC Basel to Hamburg he has been on the radar of Chelle for the past six months, with his performance in the Europa League catching the attention of the coach.
The 26 year old was included in the Super Eagles squad for the first time by head coach Eric Chelle, and he celebrated his call up with a goal against Borussia Dortmund in the German Bundesliga, but his team let a two goal lead slip to lose 2-3.
He now has one goal and assist for his loan side in seven games, operating mainly on the left flank or behind the striker. His representative said he was shock to see reports in Nigeria terming him as a striker.
” Otele was surprised to see such reports because he is mainly a winger. He has only played once as a striker in the past two years and once behind the striker. He is a winger and that is where he has played in majorly all of his senior career till date”, he explained.
