Head coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Eric Chelle will without the services of his top players when they take part in the Unity Cup in London next month, OwnGoalNigeria.com can exclusively reveal.
Nigeria will defend their last edition trophy in May and will play Zimbabwe for a spot in the final, where they will meet the winner between India and Jamaica in the tournament’s other game.
However top players of the Nigerian national team won’t be available for the tournament, with most of them expected to be observing the end of the season break.
Top striker Victor Osimhen, Ademola Lookman, Alex Iwobi, Calvin Bassey, Wilfred Ndidi, Frank Onyeka and Moses Simon are expected to sit out the tournament.
They will however return for the high profile friendly games against Poland and Portugal respectively in the month of June.
Chelle will use the opportunity of their absence to invite new players to the team, and also give game time to fringe players.
