Kelechi Iheanacho who was the hero for Celtic in their 6-2 win over St. Mirren in the semi final of the Scottish Cup has been handed another chance with the senior national team of Nigeria, OwnGoalNigeria.com can exclusively reveal.
Snubbed for the AFCON and also subsequent games, the 29 year old is however back in the team after almost a year absence, and will be among the senior players in the squad for the Unity Cup.
Nigeria will defend their Unity Cup title in England next month beginning their campaign against Zimbabwe, before squaring up against one of either India or Jamaica.
Iheanacho is one of six senior players in the team for the tournament picked by head coach Eric Chelle, who will use the tournament to run the rule on players playing in lowly rated European Leagues and also players in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).
This season he has six goals and one assist in 18 games. He has also battled with injuries and fitness issues since his move to the Scottish side in the summer.
