Head coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Eric Chelle is putting finishing touches to his list of invited players for the upcoming Unity Cup next month in London, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.

Chelle has already said he won’t be calling on his regular players for the tournament, where they will be defending their title with their first game against Zimbabwe, before taking on either of Jamaica or India in the other game of the tournament.

Aside confirming that he will pick players from teams in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), Chelle also said he will give opportunities to fringe players and those who are based in second rated but competitive leagues in Europe.

One of the players hoping to get a look in is Liverpool U21 defender Wellity Lucky Omoruyi , who was born in Spain to parents of Nigerian descent.

He is eligible to play for Nigeria, England or Spain and has international experience with the youth teams of the European teams , but none at all with Nigeria.

” If he is an option for Nigeria then he will gladly head to the camp in London for the Unity Cup. It’s hard to say to a football country like Nigeria when they call you”, his representative told OwnGoalNigeria.com.

Omoruyi will however face a daunting task convincing Chelle to give him a chance as he is yet to play for the first team of Liverpool, although he is in the same situation like Benjamin Fredrick a year ago at the same tournament, who made his mark despite playing for the U21 of Brentford.
