As many as 15 new players have been handed a spot in the squad of the senior national team of Nigeria for the upcoming Unity Cup tournament in London, OwnGoalNigeria.com can exclusively reveal.
Nigeria will be defending the tournament they won last year next month with a game against Zimbabwe in the semi final, before facing one of either India or Jamaica in the tournament’s other game.
Head coach Eric Chelle has already said he will use the tournament to try out new players in less glamorous but competitive European leagues, and also players from the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).
Chelle will arrive in Nigeria this week, and watch a couple of games in the league before settling on the players who will be in the team. Sources say as many as 15 new players will be in the team for the tournament.
” At least 15 new players will be in the team. That I can tell you and around five or six will be from the NPFL. Provisional invitation has been sent out ahead of the trimming before it will be made public two weeks before the tournament”, he stated.
