Head coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Eric Chelle has decided to add young Ikorodu City goalkeeper Michael Atata to his squad for the upcoming Unity Cup friendly tournament in London, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.
The shot stopper has impressed this season for modest side Ikorodu City with 16 clean sheets for his team, who are chasing a continental spot.
He has already attended visa interviews with the English Embassy in Abuja. He did alongside six other players from teams in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).
Four of the seven players selected are from Ikorodu City from what we gathered. Atata will be the third choice goalkeeper at the tournament behind the duo of Arthur Okonkwo and Francis Uzoho.
While Uzoho is favourite to start in goal, Okonkwo will however get his baptism of senior international football at the tournament with Chelle willing to see how he fits in before the high profile friendly games against Poland and Portugal respectively.
