Former Nigeria international goalkeeper Carl Ikeme took part in a boxing event for charity meant to raise funds for Merseyside-based charities at the Titanic Hotel in Liverpool, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.
Ikeme whose career was cut short after he was diagnosed with cancer. It came at the peak of his international career with the senior national team of Nigeria.
He defeated Bradley Orr via a second-round technical knockout (TKO) one of the fights of the event tagged ” A Night to Remember” organised by Pro Project Promotions. The event took place last month but it only just came to our notice in the last 24 hours.
The victory for the former Wolves goalkeeper served as another testament to his fighting spirit, following his previous triumphant battle against acute leukaemia. Despite the competitive bout, both men share a deep mutual respect, with Orr affectionately noting prior to the fight that Ikeme had “already had the biggest fight of his life”.
Aside Ikeme, the event fight card featured several retired football stars—including Chris Iwelumo, Lee Trundle, and Ross McCormack—testing their skills in the squared circle.
