The decision of Strasbourg forward Emmanuel Emegha to turn his back on playing for Nigeria appears to have backfired after he was left out of the squad of the Netherlands for the world cup, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.

While at Dutch side Sparta Rotterdam, Emegha who was 17 back then did a video with Nigeria international goalkeeper Maduka Okoye speaking about his desire to play for Nigeria.

Following his move to Strasbourg, he made a u-turn on that decision and pledged his international allegiance to the Netherlands where he was born to a Nigerian father and a Togolese mother.

Two seasons ago he finished as top scorer for the club with 14 goals, prompting Chelsea to snap him up from their sister club, but he was left on loan to further develop ahead of joining them this summer.

His form also earned him his dream to play for the senior national team of the Netherlands, playing in the world cup qualifiers against Poland and Lithuania. He got a combined total of 28 minutes in both games.

Last season wasn’t the best of season for the 23 year old with injuries and fitness issues limiting his appearances and also goal count. It has also cost him a spot in the team of the Netherlands for the world cup.
