Abdullahi Bewene who made an instant impression for the senior national team of Nigeria in his debut game yesterday against Poland has opened up on how he was converted to a right back by the coach of the Nigeria U17 team, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.
Bewene stood tall yesterday in the 2-2 draw showing why head coach Eric Chelle drafted him in as cover following the withdrawal of some of the invited players for the game.
He showed remarkable composure on the ball in a jammed stadium in Warsaw. His performance came as a surprise to many who were not in the know about him before the game.
” I started as a winger before I was converted to a right back in the Nigeria U17 camp by head coach Fatai Amoo. I am comfortable in anywhere that is best for me but I prefer playing on the wings”, the 21 year old revealed in an exclusive interview with OwnGoalNigeria.com.
Looking ahead to the game against Portugal, he said he is ready for the challenge if he is picked by the coach. ” The coach has the final say but if I am picked to play, I promise to give my best”, he stated .
