Back at Bayer Leverkusen after a loan spell with second division German side VFL Bochum, young Nigerian midfielder Francis Onyeka is heading out on another loan deal, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.
The 19 year old scored 8 goals in 30 league games last season, and the club believe he has gained sufficient experience to try out with a team in the top division.
According to Sky, newly promoted SV Elversberg have agreed all terms of having him on a season long loan deal next season. Their second signing after Maurice Krattenmacher joined from FC Bayern on a permanent deal on Friday.
Onyeka is now set to join their bid for survival as the two clubs are reportedly in their final stages of negotiations.
Sky added in their report that Leverkusen intend to extend Onyeka’s contract until 2031. The move will give him top-flight experience as he has yet to play in Bundesliga. Onyeka will be the captain of Germany in this summer’s U19 Euros in Wales.
Born in Germany to parents of Nigerian descent, he is yet to be capped by both nations at any level but all that is expected to change based on his performance next season.
