German Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen have started preparations for next season where they will be under a new coach in Carles Martínez Novell, who was appointed as replacement for Kasper Hjulmand after a poor end to last season, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.
The former coach of Toulouse have started the process of preparing for the start of pre season training, and also identifying targets in the transfer window in tandem with the hierarchy of the club.
A decision per what we gathered has been made on the future of Victor Boniface after his return from an unsuccessful loan spell with fellow Bundesliga side Werder Bremen.
He endured an injury hit time at the club, and ended the season with just two assists in 11 games. A run that made the team to ignore the option of signing him permanently.
With two years left on his deal, the club is exploring ways to ease him out of the door for a minimal fee, with the idea of getting him off their wage bill key in their plans for next season.
In terms of targets, the team’s defence is where the manager is looking at improvements by bringing in more options, and Nigeria international defender Emmanuel Fernandez is among the options at the club.
Fernandez is said to be high on their list with Scottish side Rangers open to his exit but for a fee in excess of €30m.
