Head coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Eric Chelle will in the coming days sign a new deal to continue in his role after a resolution was reached between the National Sports Commission (NSC) and the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).
Chelle’s contract was due to run out next year, with talks over an extension dragging on after he switched agents during talks. His new representative tabled a new salary demand.
The coach was earning $50,000 in his present deal and also pays his assistants. His new deal means he will now get double the amount and won’t bother about sharing with his assistants.
Today’s joint meeting of the NSC and the NFF reached a decision to pay the Malian a salary of $100,000 a month, and also pick up the bills of his assistants.
The meeting also approved a proposal by the NSC for the coach to double as the U23 coach of Nigeria. A first of its kind in the history of Nigerian football.
