Newly appointed coach of Portugese side Benfica Marco Silva has handed a first team spot to 19 year old Nigerian striker Peter Edokpolor for the start of pre season training, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.
Fresh from signing a two years extension to his stay at the club , Silva who replaced Jose Mourinho will use the pre season games to run the rule on the young Nigerian.
Signed from an academy in Abuja in January 2025 shortly after turning 18, he has been deployed in two roles namely as a striker and winger drawing comparison to one of their former players in Darwin Nunez.
Last year, he started out with the U23s, but midway through the season he was promoted to the B team, where he still made 19 appearances, just two as a starter, totalling 523 minutes with three goals.
He is a player whose evolution stands out in this year and a half at the club. Tactically and technically, he has improved a lot and will push to be a mainstay of the first team under Silva.
