Fresh from signing a professional deal with French Ligue 1 giants Lyon, young Nigerian centre back Melvyn Otobo made his first appearance for the first team in yesterday’s pre season 5-2 win over UF Maconnais, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.
The 18 year old who joined the club in 2020 progressed from the youth ranks of the team to become a professional with a deal till the summer of 2028. He was rewarded for making himself a mainstay of the U19 last season where he made 23 appearances.
He earned praises from the Portugese coach of the team Paulo Fonseca based on how he acquitted himself in his first taste of football with the first team.
Born in France to parents of Nigerian descent, if he progresses to the first team his international future will no doubt sparked a tussle between both countries. For now he hasn’t been capped at any level by both countries.
On his official handle on Instagram, he has the flag of both nations clearly showing his connection to the African country.
