Nigeria U20 team have been handed a tough draw for the upcoming WAFU B tournament in Cote d’Ivoire, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.
The Nigerian team were drawn in group B, where they will take on regional rival Ghana and emerging power house in youth football Burkina Faso. Togo round up the teams in the group.
In group A, the host were grouped alongside Niger Republic and Benin Republic. All teams in the tournament will be looking to get a ticket to the U20 AFCON which will be hosted by Ghana.
Nigeria go into the tournament as defending champions after winning the last two editions, putting a huge level of expectations on the Abdullahi Maikaba led team who have rounded up their preparation in Abuja.
Maikaba’s predecessors Ladan Bosso and Aliyu Zubairu both won the tournament in respective years. However his mandate is to ensure that the team makes it to the U20 AFCON.
The tournament will run from the 26th of June to the 2nd of August.
