Nigeria international goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali won’t be the automatic first choice goalkeeper of Chippa United following his return to the team a few days ago, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.
Nwabali left the team after the AFCON by mutually terminating his contract but returned after failing to secure a move elsewhere. He signed a fresh two year deal to continue his story at the club.
However as opposed to previous seasons where he was the undisputed first choice, he is facing a fight to be the main man in goal following the emergence of 31 year old Dumsani Msibi.
He emerged last season when Nwabali went off injured during the game against Orlando Pirates in November, and the team were struggling in the relegation zone.
With Nwabali out injured and later away with Nigeria for the AFCON, Msibi solidified his position as first choice and helped the team to avoid the drop. His major highlight was leading the team to a six game unbeaten run upon taking over as first choice.
Sources say he will start next season as first choice ahead of Nwabali, who was also replaced as captain of the team following his exit in February.
