Nigeria international forward Victor Boniface showed his readiness for the start of the new season with a brace for Bayer Leverkusen in their 7-0 win over amateur side Sportfreunde Baumberg, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.
Boniface is back at the club after spending last season on loan to Werder Bremen, where he failed to make sufficient impact to earn a permanent deal.
He was the first among the players of the club to resume for pre season training and he wasted no time in making his mark with a brace. A sign that he is getting back to the form that made him a instant hit at the club when he joined three seasons ago.
His fellow Nigeria international Nathan Tella also got among the goals as they begin life under new coach Carles MartÃnez Novell.
The Spanish head coach was officially appointed in June 2026 on a two-year deal lasting until June 2028, taking over following Kasper Hjulmand’s departure.
