The 1-0 defeat to Spain in the 2026 World Cup final not only denied the Argentina national team back-to-back titles, but also cost them the top spot in the world rankings, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.

The European side took advantage of the victory in New York to climb to the top of the overall table, which will remain frozen and without official changes until its next update on October 7.

Meanwhile in Africa the senior national team of Nigeria dropped from 3rd to 4th in Africa, but retain their position of 26th in the world. A dipped cost by their absence at the world cup.
