English Premier League side Fulham are pushing closer to agreeing a deal for the signing of newly capped Nigeria international defender Chibuike Nwaiwu following the departure of Issa Diop to Ipswich Town, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.
Diop’s departure means the club can now intensify their push for the signing of the 22 year old Nigerian from Turkish side Trabzonspor. Already all personal terms on his wages have been agreed.
Trabzonspor are demanding a fee in excess of €35m, while Fulham are offering €27m with €3m in bonuses, and allowing Trabzonspor also hold a %15 sell on clause in the event of a transfer during his stay at the club.
Sources say the lanky defender will sign a five year deal when both clubs find an agreement. The departure of Diop who was outstanding for Morocco in their run to the quarter final of the world cup will make talks to accelerate.
For Nwaiwu It will be his second big move in six months after moving from Austrian side Wolfsberger AC in January to Trabzonspor.
He made 16 league appearances, where he found the back of the net three times.
