Nigeria international striker Victor Boniface is using the pre season at Bayer Leverkusen under new coach Carles Martínez Novell to fight for another chance at the club, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.

Boniface spent last season on loan to Werder Bremen where he didn’t quite live up to the expectations that would have earned him a permanent deal at the club.

Now back at Bayer where he has been facing an uncertain future the past 18 months, the 24 year old who saw a transfer to Saudi Arabia side Al Nassr collapsed in January 2025 is like a player on trial.

Already he started on a sound note by returning early for pre season and also scoring twice in their 7-0 win over SF Baumberg in their first game as they step up preparations for next season.

He still has two years to run on his deal at the club, but his stay at the club is entirely dependent on what the coach sees in him during training and also games.

A transfer will however be sanctioned if they receive an offer in the region of €20m.
