Head coach of the U20 team of Nigeria Abdul Maikaba has picked 17 year old Habila Simeon as captain of the Nigerian team to the WAFU B tournament, OwnGoalNigeria.com can exclusively reveal.
The attacking midfielder plays for famous Jos based football academy Golden Boot Soccer (GBS) , owned by the popular coach Bros who has been pivotal in the development of notable names that have represented Nigeria at various levels.
Habila won’t be 18 till September, but he did enough to convince Maikaba to hand him the captain armband for the tournament, which serves as a qualifier for the U20 AFCON.
Already he has found himself on the radar of top teams in Europe, who are looking at making their move official when he turns 18, or better still after the WAFU B tournament.
Nigeria will begin their WAFU B U-20 Championship campaign against Ghana’s Black Satellites on Monday in a highly anticipated group-stage clash.
The Flying Eagles will later face Togo on July 30 before completing their group fixtures against Burkina Faso on August 2.
