The Nigeria U20 team opened their campaign at the WAFU B championship with a 4-2 win over arch rivals Ghana, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.
Nigeria started the game brightly and got rewarded very early when right full back Olayemi Ayinla rifle home an unstoppable effort to open scoring in the 6th minute.
However the lead didn’t last for long before Ghana drew level. Nigeria responded almost immediately with 15 minutes to half time when a deflected free kick from Lucky Oraro helped them regain the lead.
Abdulmuiz Adeleke who ended the game with a brace made sure Nigeria went into the break leading 3-1 with a goal from the spot.
Ghana returned from the break as the better side and were duly rewarded when they got a penalty which was converted to bring scores to 3-2. Nigeria had to weather waves of attack before finally sealing the win with a fourth goal.
Adeleke who wasted a glorious chance to finish earlier was once again called upon and like he did in the first half. He buried his efforts to give the team a 4-2 opening win.
The Flying Eagles will face Togo on July 30 before completing their group fixtures against Burkina Faso on August 2.
