Head coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Eric Chelle has named a replacement for top striker Victor Osimhen who is in a race against time to be fit for the upcoming AFCON qualifiers in September, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.

Super Eagles will begin their campaign to be at the 2027 AFCON with a home tie in Uyo against Madagascar on the 23rd of September before traveling to keep a date with Guinea-Bissau four days later.

Osimhen was injured over the weekend ruling him out of their UEFA Champions League game against Sporting Lisbon and possibly the next two league games, which will put his involvement with Nigeria in doubt.

We can exclusively reveal that Chelle has already made contacts with a replacement to be on standby ahead of the games. Osimhen has however not ruled himself out totally.

Coventry City forward Taiwo Awoniyi is the man picked by the coach, and he will join the quartet of Genk forward Rafiu Durosinmi, Akor Adams of Venezia and Terem Moffi of German side Hamburg.
