Head coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Eric Chelle has hinted at taking disciplinary actions against Udinese goalkeeper Maduka Okoye ahead of their opening AFCON 2027 qualifiers games against Madagascar and Guinea-Bissau respectively, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.
Okoye is yet to arrive in the camp of the team less than 24 hours to tomorrow’s game against Madagascar in Uyo, leaving the coach with just two goalkeepers at his disposal.
Reacting to questions at the pre match presser, we sought to know the true state of Okoye’s absence, and if there will be any consequences for his actions.
“I can tell you the truth. His club (Udinese ) asked to allow him do some club related activities and I agreed, he was supposed to come before then but he is not here and I will manage the situation but I have to make some decisions. We will see”, a visibly angry Chelle said.
It’s still unclear if Okoye will join the team before their next game, but team sources say they are not sure because he hasn’t been in touch despite his post on social media, which suggests that he is on his way to camp.
