The U23 team of Nigeria will face DR Congo in a two legged game in November for a spot in the next round of the qualifiers for the U23 AFCON, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.

DR Congo recovered from losing 0-1 away to Mauritania to win 2-0 and progress on a 2-1 aggregate score and in the process set up a game against Nigeria.

The Nigeria U23 team is handled by head coach Eric Chelle and he will be gunning for revenge after it emerged earlier today that DR Congo fielded an ineligible player in the final of the world cup qualifiers playoff, where they defeated Nigeria on penalties to progress to the international playoff.

According to the New York Times, FIFA discovered that Nigeria’s petition against Lionel Mpasi who was in goal in the playoff final didn’t fulfill the requirements of his nationality switch from France to Congo, before taking part in the game.

However they dismissed the appeal by Nigeria on what they term as technical grounds following the late filing of the case by Nigeria. A bogus claim which has now put them under intense scrutiny from the world at large.
