
As many as five players played their way into the plans of head coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Eric Chelle in the 3-3 draw against Russia in yesterday’s international friendly game, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.
Yesterday a Nigerian team largely made up of players who will be part of the future U23 team under Chelle recovered from 1-3 down to draw 3-3 in a highly charged stadium.
Chelle we can exclusively reveal was very pleased with five players and has marked them down for a spot in the senior team in the nearest future, and some could be immediate.
Abdullahi Bewene – Once again showed class all through. Solid in tackles, good on the ball and not scared of carrying the ball. It was his third cap and all came in friendlies. Next step will be in November with the main team in the AFCON qualifiers.
Chibby Nwoko – The 20 year old Fulham U23 midfielder didn’t look out of place. Tracked back to help out defensively and also showed some close ball skills to go past his man. Has an eye for a pass and his deft touches had the stadium screaming in excitement. A star in the making
Igor Wilfred – While he was very wasteful on the ball, he is the type of player that Chelle likes in terms of what he gives the team. Covered lots of ground for the team, loves a tackle and plays with aggression and intensity. A huge reason why he lasted the entire duration of the team.
Umar Abdullahi – A very lively performance which he capped with an assist for the leveller. Quick, skillful, strong, daring and also decisive in the box. He will no doubt be in the senior team before the end of the year.
Peter Edokpolor . Took his goal really well and showed that he can be relied on in the not too distant future. He however need to step up from U23 football at Benfica to top flight football.
