20 year old Augsburg winger Uchenna Ogundu has been called up to the Nigeria U23 team by head coach Eric Chelle for the upcoming U23 AFCON qualifiers games against DR Congo, OwnGoalNigeria.com can exclusively reveal.

Nigeria will be bidding to qualify for the U23 AFCON for the first time since 2016, when they take on DR Congo over two legs in November for a spot in the final round of qualifiers.

Ogundu who joined the Bundesliga side in January from Turkish side Alanyaspor is seen by Chelle as a player who can add experience and leadership to the team.

Although he has found it hard to break into the team of Augsburg on a regular, he has however made one appearance for the first team in the league this season.

For the U19 where he has been active, he has scored ten goals in eight matches with the club keen on easing him into the demand of playing in the Bundesliga, and also help his mastery in speaking German for easy communication.
