FC Basle winger Philip Otele has been handed a call to join the senior national team of Nigeria ahead of the upcoming AFCON qualifiers games against Tanzania, Owngoalnigeria.com can exclusively reveal.
Nigeria will be aiming to use the back to back games against Tanzania to get their campaign back on track, after a 0-3 defeat against Guinea-Bissau in the last round of games.
Head coach of the Nigerian team Eric Chelle will be without winger Samuel Chukwueze for both games on the 13th in Uyo and away in Zanzibar on the 17th of November respectively. The coach has settled for his replacement.
We can exclusively reveal that 27 year old Otele, who already has five senior caps for Nigeria got the nod as the replacement for Chukwueze, and has already received his letter of invitation.
Otele is back at Swiss side FC Basle after spending the second half of last season on loan to German Bundesliga side Hamburg.
Since his return he has one goal in 12 games across all competitions so far, but has the trust of the coach owing to his performances for Nigeria in previous games. Notably the Unity Cup in the summer which took place in London.
