Samuel Chukwueze has been ruled out of the Super Eagles upcoming AFCON qualifiers after undergoing surgery to correct a hip injury that has kept him out of action for two weeks, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports

Nigeria will be up against Tanzania in back to back games as they bid to get their campaign back on track, after a 0-3 defeat to Guinea-Bissau in their last game in the series.

They will have to navigate both games without Chukwueze who went into the season unsure of his future at AC Milan, but turned it around to cement a spot in Ruben Amorim’s team until the injury.

The Nigerian was pivotal to Amorim’s system, being the starting wing-back on the right for most of the early season. Unfortunately, though, he suffered a hip injury and hasn’t been seen since.

Chukwueze’s surgery successful

As confirmed in recent minutes by a club statement, Chukwueze’s surgery has now taken place and it was a complete success. A return date has not been given, but reports from the time of the injury suggested he’d be back in 2027.

“AC Milan announces that Samuel Chukwueze has undergone surgery in London to repair a ruptured tendon in the tensor fascia latae muscle in his left hip. The surgery, performed by Prof. Ernest Schilders in the presence of Dr. Stefano Mazzoni, was a complete success.

The footballer will return to Italy today, where he will begin his rehabilitation process.”
