0

AZ Alkmaar thrashed ADO Den Haag 4-0 in a Dutch Eredivisie game with two Nigerian players enduring different fortunes during the course of the game.

Fred Friday rounded up a fine afternoon for his team at their home ground the AFAS Stadion by netting their fourth goal in the 60th minute.

The goal was his fourth of the season from 18 games no thanks to a slow start to life at his new surroundings after moving from Norwegian side Lillestroem in the summer.

Since the turn of the year, the 21 year old has found the back of the net four times, a sign of how well he has finally hit the form that made him a feared marksman in the Norwegian league, where he spent three seasons.

However it was a night to forget for Super Eagles latest invitee Tyroone Ebuehi as the Dutch-Nigerian full back struggled to cope with the pressure mounted on him by the home team.

Ebuehi who is set to leave the Netherlands for England tomorrow, ahead of the Super Eagles friendly games against Senegal and Burkina Faso next week ended the game with a booking to his name in the 64th minute.

Zamalek leveled in the second half to restore their goal advantage leaving the Nigerians with a mountain to climb, as they needed to score four times to progress to the next round.

Godwin Aguda reestablished Enugu Rangers lead via the spot but the 2-1 win was not enough for them to progress to the next round, which is the group stage.

Just like Rivers United, Rangers will now drop to the CAF Confederations Cup where they will be hoping to make atonement for their poor showing in the CAF Champions League.

Free Scoring Midfielder Sanusi Scores Again For Sparta Rotterdam, Belgium Set To Beat Nigeria For His Services

0

Belgian-Nigerian midfielder Ryan Sanusi continued his fine form for Dutch side Sparta Rotterdam by netting in their 3-1 win over Heracles in the Dutch Eredivisie.

Sanusi set his team on the path to victory when his effort was deflected into the back of the net in the 29th minute to give his side a 1-0 lead over the visitors.

He was however booked in the 50th minute for a trip on Robin Gosens, which could easily have seen him shown a red card but for the leniency of the referee.

Born to a Nigerian father and a Belgian mother, the 25 year old has already represented Belgium at U-20 level but not at senior level, which makes him eligible to switch allegiance to Nigeria.

So far he has been one of the top performers for Sparta Rotterdam with 16 appearances to his name this season in the league, while the goal against Heracles is his first of the season.

Last season he played a pivotal role in helping Sparta Rotterdam gain promotion to the top division in Holland, scoring six goals from his role as a defensive midfielder.

0

Super Eagles midfielder Eddy Onazi played a key role for Trabzonspor as they consolidated their fine start to the second half of the season in Turkey with a 2-0 win over league giants Galatasaray.

Onazi was on from the start in what was his 24th game of the season for the team he joined in the summer from Italian Serie A side Lazio.

So far he has scored two goals, but he wasn’t among the goal scorers in their win over Galatasary, but put in a good shift for the duration of time he was on the pitch during the ill tempered game.

He was replaced by Mustafa Akbas in the 70th minute, in what was a tactical change by coach Ersun Yanal following the sending off of central defender Ugur Demirok for two bookable offences.

The game which witnessed seven yellow cards and a red card for Onazi’s teammate was a game which once again outlined the importance of the Nigerian to his Turkish side.

Known for his box to box runs, he was very industrious in the middle for his team, winning balls and setting up attacks especially in the first half, where two of his deliveries into the box was wasted by his teammates.

Rivers United Out Of CAF Champions League After 4-0 Thrashing In Sudan

0

Rivers United campaign in the CAF Champions League was brought to an end by a rampant Al-Merriekh side who thrashed them 4-0 to dump them out on a 3-4 aggregate score.

The Stanley Eguma lead lad got off to a worst possible start by conceding two goals in the opening 25 minutes of the game, and even ended the half losing 3-0.

Bakri Almadina scored a first half hattrick with the last of his three goals coming via the spot late into the first half, as Rivers United struggled to cope with the vociferous atmosphere at the stadium.

Al-Merriekh got the all important goal which sealed their passage to the group stage after the hour mark to send the Nigerians out of the tournament on a 4-3 aggregate score.

German-Nigerian Sarenren Bazee Rocks New Haircut Ahead Super Eagles Debut Against Senegal

0

Super Eagles latest invitee Joel Noah Sarenren Bazee was a second half substitute for Hannover 96 in their 0-0 draw against St. Pauli in the Bundesliga 2.

Bazee who is still recovering from an injury picked up two weeks ago was introduced for Stephen Maier in the 67th minute to help Hannover snatch all three points against their host.

He did as expected when he put the ball in the back of the net, two minutes into time added on but the goal was rightfully disallowed for an infringement in the build up to the goal.

However one thing which was quite noticeable in his game was a new hair cut, a breakway from the way he use to style his hair since his breakthrough last season.

The German-Nigerian forward will most likely play for the Super Eagles against Senegal with the haircut in their first friendly game on the 23rd before the Burkina Faso tie four days later.
