The Men Behind The Names In Gernot Rohr’s 25 Man List Unmasked

Gernot Rohr is a gentle man, a very focused coach and a man that has direction. His coming has brought back our lost smiles but two men, Jonathan Akpos and Tunde Ade-what? are his very close confidants and together, they are gradually leading him astray.

Behind every Nigerian coach living or dead, there is always the hatchet men, whose job it is to identity the talents and bring them to the notice of the coaches. Some go the extra length to discuss with the players and tidy up those lose ends. Some of these hatchet men are always seen around the team camp, they eat and sleep in the players hotel, go to training with them and also join them in morning devotions.

From the days of Clemens Westerhof to Sunday Oliseh and later Samson Siasia, these hatchet men have existed. Some move always with a big bag on their back, others will prefer to operate from afar just to stay away from public scrutiny.

It is no longer news that one Mr Tunde Adela-what? was the brain behind Gernot Rohr’s coming to Nigeria, neither is it news that he got his fair share in the deal that brought the Franco German to Nigeria. What is news however is that this young man who is always seen around the Super Eagles camp whenever the players are around, now have an overbearing influence on team selection and is gradually usurping the duties of the NFF technical committee.

Just yesterday, I spoke with a member of the technical committee of the NFF who told me in clear terms that of the seven names suggested by the committee for the friendly matches against Senegal and Burkina Faso, only one made the final list of 25. ” Wale you see there are things we will not like to say to the media. It is just a friendly match we all know but methought such games should be used to test those players on the fringes not some rookies and some injured players who have nothing to offer in the long run. But we have decided not to interface, we can only make suggestions when requested for. We suggested about seven names to Rohr for these friendlies in London, but only one was picked”

Apart from Tunde, another Nigerian who as at last year was an analyst with a Cable TV network in Lagos has been fingered in this latest racket. Step forward Jona Akpos. Immediately Gernot Rohr got the Super Eagles coaching job, he consulted the German FA to inform them of his new assignment and to request for assistance where necessary.

The FA immediately went to work and provided him with a list of former Nigerian internationals who at one time or the other played in the German Bundesliga. From this list, Rohr picked Jona and saddled him with the responsibility of scouting for Nigerian players in Europe for possible National call ups. Since he got this new job, Jona has been on the move looking for talents across Europe.

His search has helped to unearth two rookies, in Tyrone Ebuehi of ADO Den Haag of Holland and Noah Joel Bazee who plays in the German second division with Hannover 96. Both players are in their early 20s, have no previous national team experience and have never seen the green grass of home in their life time.

There are others in the list like, Ahmed Musa who comes in and out of the Leicester team, Musa Mohammed who is yet to kick a ball for his new club FC Zeicheznicker of Bosnia and Victor Osimhen who is still recuperating from injury with Wolfsburg of Germany.

Not to forget William Troost Ekong who has become a perpetual bench warmer at KAA Gent of Belgium.nNow, there are four Nigerians at KAA Gent, two of them, Moses Simon and Anderson Esiti play regularly while Ekong and Rabiu Ibrahim are unused substitutes. Coincidentally, Troost and Simon were invited while a very fit Esiti was left out. What can we call that?

In the Portuguese League, Chidozie Awaziem of FC Porto was invited ahead of Michael Agu of Victoria Setubal. Agu has emerged man of the match four times this season with Setubal, he plays week in week out, whereas, Awaziem was only recently relegated to the youth team of FC Porto where he has remained a key player for them in the second division in Portugal . unused . The surprising thing is that Awaziem a defensive midfielder is always listed as a defender by these men to cover up their dubious intentions . What can we say about this one too?

Former Flying Eagles captain Kelechi Nwakali is in superb form for MVV Maastricht of Holland, he plays from the middle every other week and has emerged as one of the stars of the league this season but he was left out of a team that lacks creative flair in the absence of Mikel Obi. Instead, they went for some untested and uncircumcised rookies.

In the attack, the regulars, Odion Ighalo and Brown Ideye are out after penning new deals in China but in comes Ahmed Musa( the Leicester City flop) Victor Osimhen (injured ) and Noah Joel Bazee of Hannover 96, who has scored just one goal in 16 matches this season. These men were picked ahead of Henry Onyekuru and Kayode Olarenwaju, two of the hottest Nigerian strikers in Europe presently. Kayode was voted the best striker in Austria last season and is back among the scorers for Austria Wien this season. There is God ooooh!

Rohr Retains Leicester City Ahmed Musa As Super Eagles Captain For Senegal, Burkina Faso Game, Onazi Appointed Vice

0

Out of favour Leicester City forward Ahmed Musa will wear the skipper band when Nigeria take on Senegal and Burkina Faso in two high profile friendly games later in the month.

Musa has fallen out of favour at Leicester City under new coach Craig Shakespeare who is in charge of the team in interim capacity following the dismissal of former boss Claudio Ranieri.

Ranieri reportedly lost his job after senior players questioned his decision to start the Nigerian ahead of Demarai Gray in their 1-2 UEFA Champions League loss to Sevilla in the first leg of their round of 16 clash at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan.

Shakespeare has not selected Musa since taking over as coach of the team in interim capacity, but Rohr insist on him as captain for the Eagles friendly tie despite his club travails according to a source close to the German coach.

” No way will Rohr replace Musa as vice captain. He will retain his position, he is one of the senior players in the team, you have to respect that”, he told Owngoalnigeria.com.

” Ogenyi Onazi will act as his deputy in the games against Senegal and Burkina Faso, but when Mikel Obi is in the team, they fall back to first and second assistant”.

Victor Moses Goal Line Clearance Rescued Chelsea Against West Ham – Bilic Suggest

0

Coach of West Ham United Slaven Bilic has suggested that Victor Moses saved Chelsea two points in their 2-1 win over his team in yesterday’s English Premier League clash.

Bilic whose team scored a late consolation believed the final score would have been different, if Moses didn’t clear a Soufiane Feghouli’s shot on the line with goalkepper Thibaut Courtouis beaten.

The coach believed, if that ball had gone in the 61st minute it could have changed the complexion of the game, than when they scored in time added on.

” Maybe we were a bit unlucky, we had a chance to get back into the game quickly, but it was cleared off the line. If that had gone in, we probably would have had a different result, than scoring at the time we did”, Bilic said at his post match conference.

His thought was also shared by Chelsea manager Antonio Conte who also agreed that his side were lucky to have conceded in stoppage time, saying if they had conceded a goal earlier. West Ham could have had a share of the spoils.

NFF Technical Committee -Why Osimhen Was Preferred Ahead Of Odey By Gernot Rohr

0

The reason why the top scorer in the Nigeria Professional Football League Stephen Odey was left out by coach Gernot Rohr has been revealed by a member of the technical committee of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).

Odey who took his goal tally to seven for the season with the winning goal for MFM in their 1-0 win over Remo Stars yesterday, was the one player many expected to be included in the Eagles squad for the friendly tie against Senegal and Burkina Faso.

The exclusion of the NPFL top scorer made former Nigeria international Emmanuel Babayaro to lash out at the Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr, insisting that the 18 year old deserve to be in the squad ahead of Wolfsburg Victor Osimhen.

However a member of the technical committee of the NFF told Owngoalnigeria.com that the exclusion of Odey was done in good faith without favoritism by the Eagles coach.

” It’s okay to criticise the list of a national team coach, but we all know that every player can’t be called up at the same time. Osimhen has been part of Rohr’s plan from the start of his reign as coach”, he told Owngoalnigeria.com.

” Odey will be given a chance by the coach in the future, for now Osimhen has the edge over him. We have to understand how Rohr works, he is a progressive, Osimhen time will come”.

0

Musa was not in the team when they thrashed Liverpool 3-1 to pick up their first win of 2017, he has been left out of the team once again for their game with Hull City.

Since taking over from Claudio Ranieri who was reportedly sacked by Leicester City after a disagreement over his decision to field the Nigerian forward, Shakespare is yet to name Musa in his matchday squad.
Ranieri decision to start the Nigerian against Sevilla in the UEFA Champions League game against Sevilla was according to reports part of the reason why he was sacked.

Musa failed to justify his inclusion from the start that day, and was withdrawn for Demarai Gray, whose introduction sparked the English champions to life which lead to a valuable away goal in the 1-2 loss.

Eagles In China – Ideye Missing, Mikel Shines But Taste Defeat, Ighalo Fires Blank In League Opener

The much anticipated start of the Chinese Super League (CSL) witnessed games involving teams where Nigerian players ply their trade.

As many as five Nigerian players moved to China during the last CSL transfer window, with John Obi Mikel and Brown Ideye joining Tianjin Teda while Odion Ighalo moved to Chanchung Yatai.

Their teams were in action in the opening day of the CSL, and while Ideye who concluded his move to Tianjin Teda on transfer deadline day in China which was Tuesday wasn’t dressed, Mikel was on from start to finish in their 0-2 loss to Shandong Luneng.

The Super Eagles captain was however praised in the Chinese media for his performance in the game despite the lost suffered by his team, as he stood head and shoulder ahead of his teammates.

He won most of the duels he contested in the midfield, and defender well when he had to, particularly in aerial battles where he negated the aerial threat of Grazianno Pelle who lead the line for Shandong Luneng.

In the other game involving a Nigerian player, Odion Ighalo failed to live up to his price tag of the highest earning Nigerian player as he fired blank for his side Chanchung Yatai who were thrashed 5-1 by fellow big spenders Shanghai SIPG.

Selecting Victor Osimhen Over Stephen Odey Is Pure Injustice – Ex International Blast Gernot Rohr

0

The chairman of Kaduna United Emmanuel Babayaro has faulted the decision of coach Gernot Rohr to call up Victor Osimhen of Wolfsburg instead of MFM FC forward Stephen Odey.

Osimhen was included by the coach in the list of 25 players for the Super Eagles friendly games against Senegal and Burkina Faso in London later in the month.

The top scorer at the last U-17 World Youth Championship is yet to make a single appearance for Wolfsburg since his move to the German side became official when he clocked 18 years old.

Babayaro feels Osimhen should have been left alone to force his way into the first team plans of Wolfsburg instead of handing him a call up, ahead of Odey who has taken the Nigeria League by storm with five goals in the opening round of games.

” I can’t understand the thinking behind Osimhen invitation, yet it appears every one is silent because the decision was taken by Rohr, a coach who can do no wrong in the eyes of some people.

” Rohr is human and can make mistakes as well, and to me the decision to leave Odey out for Osimhen is pure injustice. The outcry would have been at it’s peak if the decision was taken by a Nigerian coach,” Babayaro told Owngoalnigeria.com.
