Golden Eaglet Suffers Embarrassing 8-1 Defeat Against England With Chelsea, Man City And Arsenal Teens In Action

0

The Manu Garba lead Nigeria U19s have suffered the worst defeat in the history of the team after losing 8-1 to an English side packed filled with players from top English Premier League clubs.

Garba’s team made up of players picked from various grassroot clubs and academies in Nigeria were no match for their English counterparts, who ran riot from the start of the game to see off the Nigerians with Anglo Nigerian striker Dominic Solanke among the goal scorers.

Captain Taylor Moore got things started in the 19th minute before Adam Armstrong doubled the lead just a minute later.

Chelsea striker Dominic Solanke made it 3-0 in the 25th minute before Armstrong got his second of the afternoon two minutes later to complete a whirlwind eight-minute spell to put Paul Williams’ side four clear at the break.

The flow of goals didn’t slow down after the break though, as Callum Connolly and Patrick Roberts added to the tally in the first five minutes of the second half.

Nigeria pulled a goal back, before Armstong, currently on loan at Barnsley from Newcastle United, completed his hat-trick in the 70th minute.

And it was left to Celtic star Roberts, also out on loan from Manchester City, to add his second of the afternoon in the 87th minute to complete the scoring.

The Golden Eaglet will next take on Iran on Friday before playing their last game against host South Korea to bring their campaign at the Suwon Continental Cup to an end.

DAY 2: Leon Balogun, Alampasu, Victor Moses & Iheanacho Lead Top Performers In Eagles Training

0

Owngoalnigeria.com covered the second day of training of the Super Eagles which took place at the training pitch of the National Stadium Abuja, ahead of their clash with Algeria on Saturday.

As it is our usual tradition, we bring to you the five players who were very impressive during the session, under the watchful eyes of coach Gernot Rohr.

Leon Balogun

The Main O5 defender returned back to training with the fitness of an Ox, he was very commanding in the defence, tackled with ease and was very domineering in the air. He came close to scoring with a well hit drive which brought out a strong save from Daniel Akpeyi. His performance will no doubt put to rest any fear regarding his fitness and readiness for Saturday’s clash.

Victor Moses

The Chelsea wingback was simply un-playable to the defender who were up against him, extremely confident with the ball at his feet, full of movement without the ball with an energy level which shouldn’t be a surprise judging by his role as a wing back at Chelsea. His mazy runs from either flanks will no doubt be a cause of concern for the Algerians if he gets to play.

Kelechi Iheanacho

Another training session, another goal and another performance to be proud off. He was very very good in front of goal. Not scared of shooting and once again his link up play with Brown Ideye and Alex Iwobi was top notch. Sure to be a mainstay in this team if he maintains his current progress.

John Ogu

Strong, combative and creative. His forward range of passes were a beauty to behold. His aerial abilities was also a point he stressed and excelled in during the session. Ogu although didn’t get into goal scoring position that much. He lookes every inch a player playing with a grudge or rather a point to prove judging by his work rate and contributions during the session.

Dele Alampasu

For the second day running the CD Feirense loanee proved his invitation is no fluke at all. He was impressive, brave, commanding and full of confident. The 2013 U-17 best goalkepper was very good at claiming crosses into the box, and his constant barking of instructions to his defenders kept his backline organised. The highlight of his performance was a smart stop from Iheanacho.

Alampasu Turning Heads With Save After Save In Training, Thwarts Man City Iheanacho

Nigeria youth international Dele Alampasu has emerged as the fans favourite in Abuja, where the Super Eagles are presently training ahead of their World Cup 2018 qualifiers against Algeria in Uyo.

Alampasu one of the three goalkeppers jostling to replace injured first choice goalkepper Carl Ikeme has been impressing the coaching crew with his reflexes and confidence between the sticks.

He thrice picked out crosses with ease and barked out instructions to his defenders like a seasoned professional regardless of the fact that he is the youngest goalkepper in the team.

The highlight of his performance was a strong save from Manchester City forward Kelechi Iheanacho who thought his effort was creeping in, until his former U-17 teammate pulled out a stupendous one hand save to keep him out.

He appears to be the fittest among the goalkeppers in camp, although the experience of Daniel Akpeyi and Ikechukwu Ezenwa could give them an edge in the battle to be named between the sticks for Nigeria against Algeria.

Leon Balogun, Shehu Abdullahi & Brown Ideye Back In Training For Super Eagles

The trio of Leon Balogun, Shehu Abdullahi and Brown Ideye are back in training with the Super Eagles after missing the team’s first training session with varying degree of knocks.

Yesterday Ideye and Balogun didn’t train with the rest of the team even though they were present at the pitch, they had light session with the team physio while Abdullahi missed the evening session and wasn’t even at the pitch.

Also today’s training has taken a different dimension with the intensity higher than that of yesterday, and players pushing to be recognised by coach Gernot Rohr were at their best.

It is expected to be their last session before they travel to Uyo, the venue of Saturday’s game against Algeria where they are expected to have an evening training session behind close doors.

Owngoalnigeria.com will in the coming hours bring our readers up to date with the session and other issues surrounding the all important clash against Algeria, which could play a big role in the race to reach World Cup 2018 in Russia.

Battle For Second Choice Goalkepper Intensifies As Rohr Drops Big Hint On First Choice

The battle for who will be on the bench as the reserve goalkepper when Nigeria take on Algeria this weekend will move to a whole new height in the coming days as the game approaches.

Already coach Gernot Rohr speaking yesterday dropped a line that suggest he is already looking towards who will be his first choice with Ikechukwu Ezenwa currently favoured.

Daniel Akpeyi and Dele Alampasu are the other two goalkeppers in the camp of the team ahead of the November 12 game, but it appears the German coach has partly made up his mind as to who will be between the sticks.
During yesterday’s session Ezenwa was put through special drills by goalkeeper trainer Alloy Agu while Alampasu and Akpeyi were involved in full scale training with the rest of the squad.

” We have a goalkepper who has been with us for some time now, he has played test games for us against local side. That alone is an edge but we have to consider other factors as well before settling on who will be in goal” He told Owngoalnigeria.com during a chat before their training.

Man City Iheanacho Scores Wonder Goal In Super Eagles Training Ahead Algeria Tie

Manchester City Kelechi Iheanacho stole the evening session of the Super Eagles of Nigeria with a sublime goal that left goalkepper Daniel Akpeyi stranded.

Iheanacho one of the early comers to the camp of the team linked up well with Alex Iwobi and Moses Simon all through the session, and he capped it up with a beautiful lobbed effort which left Akpeyi stranded.

His brilliance in training was so clear even before his goal, and his link up play with close pal Alex Iwobi was simply breathtaking, as the duo combined in close areas where it looked like a pass wasn’t on.

The Manchester City 20 year old forward chipped Akpeyi from just outside the box, clearly taking advantage of the poor position of the Chippa United ace, who was called up as a replacement for the injured Carl Ikeme.

Nigerians will be hoping he reenact same when the Super Eagles take on Algeria in Uyo, just like he has done in the last two games of the team against Tanzania and Zambia respectively.

Alampasu, Iwobi, Iheanacho Lead Top Performers In Super Eagles Training

Ahead of their World Cup 2018 qualifiers clash against Algeria, the Super Eagles of Nigeria had their first full training session at the training pitch of the National Stadium Abuja.

Owngoalnigeria.com witnessed the open door session and we picked five players who were very impressive for the two hours the training session under the watchful eyes of coach Gernot Rohr lasted.

Dele Alampasu: Brave, confident and commanding, the 2013 Korea U-17 World Cup winning goalkeeper, who was rated the best at the tournament showed why he is so highly rated. His cat like reflexes was one of the highpoint of the evening session. He was simply outstanding.

Alex Iwobi: The Arsenal forward oozed class anytime he touches the ball, he was very lively and used the ball at his feet to good effect. He connected well with other players on the pitch and clearly left coach Gernot Rohr impressed.

Kelechi Iheanacho: His link up play with Iwobi was extraordinary, the pair were at ease finding each other with passes and amazingly even in tight situations. A combination that could wreck the Algerians if carried into the match day.

Mikel Obi: The captain looked fitter than ever, didn’t show any sign of a player who is yet to play a competitive game this season for his club. Obi was lively, full of running and incisive with his passes. A sign of how well he has managed his lack of game time at Chelsea.

Moses Simon: Diminutive, daring and full of dribbles. The Gent man was clearly head and shoulders above the defenders who tried to stop him. His movement off the ball was also top class and bar a poor finish, he could have scored a wonderful goal.

Arsenal 20 year old forward Alex Iwobi who is in the camp of the Nigeria team ahead of their World Cup 2018 qualifiers against Algeria, took time off to hit the studio for some quick modelling job.

Iwobi modelled the Super Eagles new green kit in a picture stumbled upon by Owngoalnigeria.com online correspondent.

The kit which will be the Super Eagles official kit starting from next year carries something close to the present jersey but with some little alterations especially by the neck.image

The first training session of the Super Eagles of Nigeria ahead of their World Cup 2018 qualifiers against Algeria took place today at the training pitch of the National Stadium Abuja with 20 players in attendance.

However among the 20 players who turned up for the session, two players sat out the entire training session, and did light works with the team doctor, with ice packed later applied to their legs.

Mainz 05 stopper Leon Balogun and Olympiacos forward Brown Ideye were the two players who didn’t join their teammates in training, apparently nursing knocks picks up during games for their team last weekend.

Owngoalnigeria.com witnessed the one hour, 30 minutes session which was very light as coach Gernort Rohr helped the players shake off the stress of travelling down for the game.

A more intensed and demanding session will take place later in the evening by 4pm and as usual Owngoalnigeria.com will be there to bring you up to date with the latest happenings.image
