Rohr will from tomorrow take the trio of Leon Balogun, Wilfred Ndidi and Kenneth Omeruo on special defensive drills ahead of the November 12 tie in Uyo.

Injury ruled Balogun out of the 2-1 win over Zambia, and in his absence Omeruo paired with William Troost Ekong but Ekong is yet to arrive camp as at the time of filing in this report putting his participation in tomorrow’s session in doubt.

Ekong is the only centre defender to have played the two competitive game Rohr has handled the Super Eagles, but the experienced duo of Balogun and Omeruo could see him drop out of the starting line up.

Meanwhile Ndidi who played as a right back away in Ndola, will be a part of the session as well as the Genk man who is also comfortable as a central defender or a defensive midfielder is already in camp.

Official: Former Barcelona Teen Prospect Godswill Elohor Joins English Side

English League One side Fleetwood Town FC have confirmed the signing of former Barcelona youth team captain Godswill Elohor Ekpolor.

The club announced his capture and subsequently unveiled him on their official website, with the 21 year old Nigerian given the jersey number 29 shirt.
Fleetwood Town also confirmed that the Nigerian could feature in tonight’s Emirates FA Cup First Round tie against Southport.

He spent 11 years at Barcelona before he was released by the club this summer without a single first team appearance to his name.

Comfortable as a full back, centre back or right winger, he missed out on a chance of representing Nigeria at the Rio 2016 Olympics, where Nigeria won bronze.

Victor Moses Keen To Replicate Form For Chelsea With Nigeria Despite Change In Position

0

Chelsea wing back Victor Moses is eager to play a vital role for Nigeria when they take on Algeria in the World Cup 2018 qualifiers next weekend in Uyo.

The 25 year old Nigerian has been one of the consistent performers for Chelsea this season after new manager Antonio Conte switched to a 3-4-3 formation.

As a wing back, the Nigerian has reinvented himself at Stamford Bridge but he could be lined up as a winger for Nigeria when they take on Algeria.

Moses back in the team after missing the last game which the Super Eagles won 2-1 away to Zambia in Ndola, wrote about his excitement ahead of the game on his official twitter handle despite a possible change of role.

” After a great result on Saturday for Chelsea now it’s time to focus on #Nigeria. Can’t wait for the game against Algeria this Saturday”. He posted.

EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: Rohr Speaks On Algeria Clash, Victor Moses, Ighalo And Leon Balogun Return

0

Coach of the Super Eagles of Nigeria Gernot Rohr has bared his mind on a lot of issues as Nigeria get set to take on Algeria in the 2018 World Cup Qualifiers in Uyo.

The tie billed for November 12 will see group leaders Nigeria take on Africa’s highest ranked team Algeria, who are looking to bounce back from the disappointment of drawing 1-1 at home to Cameroun.

Rohr bares his mind in an interview with the official website of Confederation Of African Football (CAF).

Cafonline.com: What do you think gave the Super Eagles the edge over the Chipolopolo of Zambia in Ndola last month?
Gernot Rohr: It was a difficult match because we had high temperature especially in the first half but we tried to control the game. We played very well and tried to make the difference in the first period but the second period was tough and I was really looking at my time when it was 83 minutes. It was good we gave our all right from the beginning of the game and the willingness to score right away because we showed our determination to win. That was exactly what we did in the first period and we had two goals. We knew we have plenty of work to do in the first half because when you are down with two goals at home there is the tendency that you will want to throw everything you have into the second period which was what Zambia did in the second period. They took a lot of risk in the second period and they brought in more strikers; and they were pushing forward and it was difficult for us to play the same way as we did in the first period.

Were you happy with the performance of the defence?
I want to believe the players we had in the defence are good players. We had 26 players with about five from the local league and the only problem we have (before the match against Algeria) is that the players in local league are now on holidays and I think it might be difficult for them to have the rhythm. We still have some weeks before the match against Algeria and we have to look at what happens in the clubs; and of course we have to look at those who were injured who could not play against Zambia. We have Leon Balogun and others like Victor Moses, Isaac Success, Odion Ighalo who were not around; it is good to have so many solutions and not just one list with same players for all the matches.

The Algerians will come all out after drawing 1-1 with Cameroon at home. What are you expecting?
I believe all the games in this group will be difficult to win because all the four teams are very strong. Algeria which is the number one team in Africa must be disappointed for dropping points at home against Cameroon. They will come to Uyo very well prepared against us. So mathematically, it was a good operation for us that we won in Ndola; and we are the only teams that have three points after the first round of matches.

How have you been preparing for the November 12 clash?
The preparation has been to look at our players in their clubs because we cannot play any friendly match. We have to analyse the matches and we also have to keep eyes on our players because we have started building a new team with many young players. It was good we have two wins after two matches (Tanzania and Zambia) which is good for our confidence but there is still a lot of work to do.

Iheanacho, Iwobi Set To Light Up Eagles First Training Session In Abuja With 14 Eagles Expected To Take Part

0

As at the time of filing in this report a total of 14 Super Eagles players are expected to take part in the first training session of the team ahead of their World Cup 2018 qualifiers against Algeria.

Arsenal highly rated forward Alex Iwobi and Manchester City kid wonder Kelechi Iheanacho will take part in the session, which will be opened to the public.

The duo have struck up a partnership in the attack of the Super Eagles as witnessed in the first World Cup 2018 qualifiers against Zambia, as they were both on the score sheet in the 2-1 win for Nigeria in Ndola.

Goalkepper Daniel Akpeyi and Ikechukwu Ezenwa are already in camp and they will take part in the session with Dele Alampasu expected to hit camp this afternoon before the start of the session.

Captain of the team John Obi Mikel, Odion Ighalo, Ahmed Musa, Musa Muhammed, Shehu Abdullahi, Eddy Onazi, Uche Agbo and Oghenekaro Etebo are all expected to be at the session even though some of them are yet to arrive.

Alampasu Could Be In Goal Against Algeria As Rohr Once Confessed His Lack Of Trust In Ezenwa

0

As Nigerians wait anxiously to see who will be in goal for the Super Eagles against Algeria in the World Cup 2018 qualifiers this weekend in Uyo, Dele Alampasu could be handed his debut by the coach Gernot Rohr if he impresses the technical crew during training.

Although FC Ifeanyi Uba shot stopper Ikechukwu Ezenwa is the favorite to be between the post in the absence of first choice stopper Carl Ikeme, but Alampasu could force his way into the starting line up as the manager has in the past voiced his lack of confidence in Ezenwa’s ability.

Three weeks ago during a press conference, Rohr said that the reason why he needs Vincent Enyeama to come out of retirement is because he doesn’t entirely trust Ikeme’s deputy, and back then Ikechukwu Ezenwa and Emmanuel Daniel were back up to the Wolverhampton Wanderers shot stopper.

When asked if the Super Eagles still need Enyeama owing to the goal performance of Carl, he said, “Yes, I said it that I wanted Vincent Enyeama to return from retirement and I called him and we spoke with him. He will come back if we qualify for the World Cup.”

“We need very good goalkeepers in the Eagles. We have two local goalkeepers whom I don’t know if they will fit in if Carl sustains an injury, so I think we need two big goalkeepers. Of course for this moment, Carl is number one. We cannot change him, he will be number one for the next game,” Rohr said.

Chippa United ace Daniel Akpeyi who also has national team experience with six senior caps to his name is also in with a shout to be named as the goalkepper for the Algeria tie judging by Rohr’s statement.

Manu Garba Flies Out With Youngest Ever Golden Eaglet Team To Korea After Big Wins In Test Games

The Nigeria U19s have rounded up their training ahead of their trip to Korea, where they are scheduled to take part in an invitational tournament.

Coach Manu Garba and his wards, the youngest ever assembled Nigeria youth team will depart Abuja today for Korea, where they will play England on Wednesday before tackling Iran and host Korea on Thursday and Saturday respectively.

In the build up to the tournament in Korea, the coach selected 22 players after two grueling test games against Jay-1 Soccer Academy of Abuja and Unity Football Academy of Kaduna.

They won both ties with same scoreline 4-1 with Usman Babalolo, Ishaq Abdulrasak, Igoh Ogbu and Stanley Kanu grabbing the goals for the Golden Eaglet against Jay-1 Academy while Osas Abiye scored the consolation for the Abuja based side.

In their final tune up against Unity Academy Babalolo and Kanu were once again on the score sheet with Bolaji Oyeti and Aminu Abubakar completing the rout against the Kaduna based side, although Hamza Ishaq scored a consolation goal to ease the pain on them.

Liverpool Ovie Ejaria Will Play For Nigeria, NFF President Pinnick Assures

0

President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Amaju Pinnick has assured Nigerians that England youth international Ovie Ejaria will play for Nigeria at senior level.

Ejaria trained with the Nigeria U-17 team of 2013 but failed to make the team to the World Cup in Dubai, where Nigeria emerged as champions. The 18 year old has however made giant leap in the last six month.

He was handed his premier league debut by manager Jurgen Klopp in Liverpool 6-1 trashing of Watford, and he is already an international for England at youth level. As a matter of fact he could line up for England U19s against Nigeria in a friendly tournament in South Korea later this week.

However Pinnick is confident that the 18 year old will defend the colours of Nigeria at senior level as he is very much in the plans of manager Gernot Rohr.

” We are monitoring his progress and Rohr is well aware of him. We are not in any rush to call him up. His club career for now should be his focus but if Rohr says he wants him, we will secure him” He told Owngoalnigeria.com.

” He will play for Nigeria, we are very confident, his case is less complex than the rest”.
