Nigerian Super Teen Osimhen Gets New Coach At Wolfsburg

Nigerian highly rated teen forward Victor Osimhen will be under the tutelage of a new coach at German side Wolfsburg following the sacking of Dieter Hecking.

The decision to sack Hecking was reportedly done to stem a poor run of form that has seen them fail to win their last five games in the league.

Wolfsburg are currently placed 14th on the Bundesliga league table with just six points from their first seven games of the season, way below where many people taught they will be before the start of the season.

However Osimhen as he is yet to play a competitive game for the team as he is yet to clock the professional age of 18. But he has already hit the ground running, scoring in a game played for charity purposes.

His coach at the U23s where he has been training will now be in temporary charge of the first team for their game against SV Darmstadt 98, before a decision is made on a new permanent manager of the team.

Failed Arsenal target Samuel Chukwueze is back in Nigeria after spending time with Portuguese giants FC Porto, the team he will join when he clocks 18.

Chukwueze one of the stars of the last Nigeria U-17 team to the World Cup in Chile, where they emerged champions trained with the U-18s of the team before returning back to Nigeria.

His return we gathered was due to FIFA regulations on the transfer of minors, which means he can’t be kept by the team for now, as he is yet to be officially registered as their player.

Although a transfer fee has been agreed with his nursery team Diamond Academy for the recently turned 17 year old forward, but payments will be made after the transfer is made official.

Gbolahan Salami On Target Again For KuPS To Take Goal Count To 13 For The Season

Out of favour Super Eagles forward Gbolahan Salami scored his second goal in as many games in two days in KuPS 2-0 away win over HIFK.

He left the Nigeria Premier League as top scorer after finishing with 18 goals for Warri Wolves in February and he he taken his goal scoring form to Finland.

The goal takes his season tally to 13 in 30 games in his first season in the Finnish league. A sign of how well he has settled into his new surroundings after finally leaving the Nigeria Premier League after so many failed attempts.

Salami is now three goals away from the top scorer in the league Roope Riski who plays for SJK. However the Nigerian achieved his tally with two games less than the Finnish.

In the same game where he scored, his Nigerian compatriot at the team Azubuike Egwuekwe and Paul Onobi were also on the pitch for KuPS, but Onobi was replaced after 68 minute.

Father Reveals How Soldiers Shot And Killed Nigeria Premier League Player Izu Joseph

The father of late Shooting Stars of Ibadan player Izu Joseph has narrated how his son was shot and killed by military operatives in Bayelsa State.

Ruben Izu in a chat with an online new medium in Nigeria revealed that his son who is on holiday in his hometown in Bayelsa state, South West Nigeria was gunned down after coming out of the bathroom.

“Eye witnesses at the scene narrated to me how he was killed and it is very painful for me as his father,” a tearful Rueben told Naijafootball247.com.

“He is a professional footballer who just ended the season and he decided to spend some time with his wife and daughter in the village.

“As is usual in the village, he went to take his bath in the jetty which is a common place to go in the village to have a bath.

“As he was taking his bath and wanting to come out he heard gunshots and began to run like every other person there.”

The story continues that Joseph Izu ran into a soldier who shot him before he could explain anything.

As he fell to the ground, he cried out to the soldier that he was not a criminal but a professional football, even showing him an Identity card that he had in his wallet, but the soldier shot at him again.

“What bothered me the most was that my son was treated like a criminal? If he had committed any crime, wouldn’t he have been caught an arrested all the while he was at Shooting Stars playing?

“What happened to due process? Why cut short a young life?” Rueben Izu asked.

Rueben Izu continued that the soldiers at the scene used his sons phone to make a video of him battling with his life before they pushed him back into the river and then they left the scene.

He reportedly swam out and was rushed to the nearest hospital who could not remove the bullets and he died on his way to a bigger hospital in Yenagoa.

“What I want to know is the crime my son committed? What would they kill him like that? Rueben said.

“We need to curb these extra judicial killings. Why shoot like this? It is not right. This carelessness by the police and other security agencies should be checked.

“Lives are being cut short every day. My son is a professional footballer and now he has been murdered,” Rueben Izu said.

“He was the bread winner of the family. Losing him means we have lost an economic pillar. It is a sad moment in our lives.”

Joseph Izu played for Shooting Stars in the 2015/ 16 football season and had previously played for Bayelsa United and Unicem Rovers.

He was also part of the Beach Football team in last year’s Copa Lagos.

He left behind him a young wife and a five year old daughter.

The football family in Nigeria have been thrown into a state of mourning, following the death of Shooting Stars midfielder Izu Joseph last night.

Joseph was reportedly killed by security operatives in Bayelsa State, the Joint Task Force (JTF) who are stationed in the state to fight pipeline vandalism by hoodlums in the South South region of Nigeria.

However, there is no official statement from any quarters to confirm if he was indeed shot dead by the JTF as at the time of filing in this report.
