Peseiro Open To Dumping Super Eagles For World Cup 2026 Qualifiers Group Rivals

0

The head coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Jose Peseiro is already planning his next career move in the event that he fails to reach an agreement on extending his stay ahead of the start of the world cup qualifiers, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.

Peseiro’s deal ran out at the end of last month, a few weeks after leading the team to the final of the Africa Cup of Nations, where they were beaten 1-2 by the host Cote d’Ivoire in the final of the tournament.

For getting to the final, the coach surpassed the target of semi final to get a new deal but talks have stalled, due to disparity in what he wants as salary and what the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) offered for a new deal.

As we exclusively reported, the Portuguese coach wants a monthly salary of $120,000 while the NFF in their opening offer proposed paying him $50,000 month. The same terms he was on with his former contract that just expired, he rejected it and a new offer of around $80,000 was tabled for him to consider.

While the NFF are waiting for a response and have set a deadline of at most the end of the month for a response, the coach is spreading his options with reports in South Africa saying he has made himself available to lead their team in the event of the departure of head coach Hugo Broos.

Broos’s future is uncertain despite leading the team to a bronze medal finish at the AFCON were they were denied a spot in the final by Peseiro’s led Super Eagles side in the semi final. Broos is said to be contemplating leaving his role to take up a post on his home country in Belgium.

Although, the South Africa Football Association (SAFA) through their president Danny Jordan has said the 71 year old will stay in his job till his deal run out in 2026, Peseiro has made himself available in the event that the role becomes vacant.

South Africa are in the same world cup 2026 qualifiers group with Nigeria one point behind South Africa in 3rd position on two points after two games. Both teams will clash in June when the qualifiers resumes and Peseiro won’t mind leading them out against the Super Eagles according to citizen.co.za.

“Coach Peseiro is keen on getting the Bafana job, said the source. “He loves what he has seen with the team at the AFCON and he is certain that he can build a formidable national team. There has been a lot of talk about Hugo Broos leaving, I think that is why he has made himself available for them (SAFA)’, the online publication reported.

“For him, it’s not that he wants to kick Broos out of the job, but, he just thinks that if he leaves, then SAFA (South African Football Association) should consider him as their next coach. I think at the moment the association doesn’t know whether Broos will be staying on as the coach or what because there are lots of things that he is unhappy about. The World Cup qualifiers are coming up soon and we might see some changes before then.”

NFF Wary Of Public Backlash, Keeps Eguavoen In The Dark On Taking Over As Interim Coach Of Super Eagles

0

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is wary of the public backlash that will accompany any decision to name their technical director Austine Eguavoen as the head coach of the senior national team of Nigeria, OwnGoalNigeria.com can exclusively reveal.

Head coach of the Nigerian team Jose Peseiro left his role as coach at the end of the recently concluded Africa Cup of Nations following the expiration of his deal as coach of the team, and so far no agreement has been found on extending his deal.

Peseiro has the option of extending the deal after leading the team to the semi final of the AFCON, where they were beaten 1-2 by the host Cote d’Ivoire in the final, an agreement on his wages is delaying all parties involved from making the extension a reality.

Following his exit, the technical director Eguavoen is usually the one to step in as interim coach pending the appointment of a substantive coach for the team , but the coach who filled in the same capacity when the Super Eagles failed to go past the round of 16 at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations and also lost the world cup ticket to Ghana is in the dark over the next step of the football house.

We exclusively gathered that the NFF are not in a hurry to make a formal announcement handing him the role in temporary capacity, because of how his last assignment with the team ended and they have stepped up plans to either extend Peseiro’s deal or name a replacement by the end of this month.

They are not under any form of pressure with the team failing to get a game during the upcoming international break following the cancellation of the planned game against world champions Argentina in the United States of America.

Revealed- The Two Favourites In The Race To Replace Jose Peseiro As Super Eagles Coach

0

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has two names as favorites for the job of the coach of the senior national team of Nigeria in the event that they fail to reach an agreement on extending the contract of Jose Peseiro, OwnGoalNigeria.com can exclusively reveal.

Peseiro’s contract as coach of the Super Eagles ran out at the end of last month and despite meeting the target of reaching the target of the semi final of the AFCON for an extension, he is yet to accept the terms sent to him by the NFF.

As we exclusively reported, while he is demanding for a whooping $120,000 a month as salary, the NFF offered him $50,000, but three days ago an improved offer believe to be in the region of $80,000 was lodged by the NFF.

They have given the coach a deadline which will last till the end of this month to consider the improved offer, or they will look elsewhere for his replacement and they have already set the wheel in motion in regards to that.

We exclusively gathered that it is now down to two names in Emmanuel Amuneke and American trained Nigerian coach Michael Nsien. The duo per what we gathered will be involved in whatever set up the football house arrived at when a final decision is taken on the vacant role.

Amuneke has the backing of former players of the senior national team of Nigeria, while Nsien who is presently the head coach of the U16 and U19 of the United States of America.

Nsien who is said to have the backing of some top shots in the board bar the president Ibrahim Musa Gusau holds a U.S. Soccer Pro License and UEFA “A” License, while Amuneke who is also in the dark over if he is the preferred option of Gusau has handled the national team of Tanzania, teams in Egypt, Zambia and Sudan as well. He was also a former coach of the U17 and U20 of Nigeria.

The former Barcelona winger has twice served as assistant to the coaches of the Super Eagles and on both occasions, the team he was with failed to make it to major tournaments. The last of which was the defeat to Ghana in the play off for the 2022 World Cup, where he was assistant to Austine Eguavoen.

No Indigenous Coach Can Handle Super Eagles – Super Eagles Star Warns NFF On Peseiro’s Replacement

0

A decision on who will lead the senior national team of Nigeria is expected to be made in the coming days following the expiration of the contract of former coach Jose Peseiro, who guided the team to the final of the Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire.

Peseiro who lead the team to their best finish in 11 years, before they were beaten 1-0 by the host in the final announced the expiration of his deal, bidding farewell to the team but the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is yet to confirm his exit with talks continuing over extending his deal.

A deadline of the end of March has been set for an agreement with both patties not at par on what his monthly earnings will be like. The NFF proposed $50,000 a month pay while the coach is demanding for $120000 a month. A new offer of $80,000 has been lodged by the football body.

On the sidelines, there has been talks about handing the job to an indigenous coach but a senior player in the team has sounded a note of warning to the NFF on hiring an indigenous coach for the team, judging by what he saw at the AFCON.

” It’s funny how many people don’t know that it’s not about tactics with the Super Eagles but man management. In that regard Peseiro has no equal. See how he managed the Ahmed Musa and William Troost-Ekong situation. Can a local coach do that? Do you know the ego in that team at all?”, he told OwnGoalNigeria.com.

” There will always be clashes, but unless you have managed at this level you can’t manage it.  Did you notice how quiet the camp was despite the fact that our bonuses were not being paid and some players weren’t getting game time?

” For now I am not sure any Super Eagles player want an indigenous coach and like Ekong said we are all rooting for Peseiro to keep his job as coach”, he rounded up saying.

0

The decision on who will be the next coach of the senior national team of Nigeria is expected to be the hottest topic on the Nigerian football space following the announcement by head coach Jose Peseiro that he is no longer the coach of the team, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.

Although the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) are still in talks with the coach over an extension of his deal, but a disparity in what he should earn as monthly pay will likely bring to an end any plan of an extension, if they fail to reach a compromise by the end of this month.

However, a group of former Super Eagles players have already submitted their preferred candidate for the job to the minister for sports senator John Enoh, when they met with him before the Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire, OwnGoalNigeria.com can exclusively reveal.

Prior to the AFCON, they were doubts on extending the deal of Peseiro to cover the period of the tournament and a group of players led by Austine Eguavoen, Daniel Amokachi and Sunday Oliseh met with the minister where Emmanuel Amuneke was proposed as the suitable candidate to replace the Portuguese in the event of his likely departure.

The former Barcelona winger they say will be assisted by one of them, which will likely be Daniel Amokachi who recently upgraded his coaching qualifications. The minister gave them his words that Amuneke will be considered when the position becomes vacant.

Now that the position is officially vacant, the NFF have come under increasing pressure but not from the minister, but from those with interest in the former Nigeria U17 and U20 coach getting the job, however the first priority of the football house is to extend the deal of Peseiro.

Man City continues pursuit of Liverpool

Manchester City is determined to defend its title and continue to put pressure on Liverpool. The champion’s gap from first place is only one point, and any game can be decisive. Pep Guardiola knows how to bring his players to their peak in the second part of the season, as Alex Ferguson always did, and achieves results against the backdrop of tired competitors. At the same time, the Citizens themselves suffer from an overly busy schedule. Guardiola recently called his players supermen because they always have less time to prepare than their opponents, but the team still implements his ideas.

One of them is the ability to make maximum use of internal reserves. Last season, Gundogan helped them catch up and overtake Arsenal, and this season, Phil Foden is successfully playing the role of wild card. The Englishman is scoring important goals and has become the team’s leader during the absence of Erling Haaland and Kevin De Bruyne. Now the whole trio is back in action, and the Citizens are again vying for victory in all tournaments. Before the derby, the team will rest one day more than Manchester United, which could impact the result.

However, even a week by the warm sea may not save United: in the first round, City defeated its main rival with a score of 3-0 and is approaching the game with a clear advantage in all possible indicators.

Who’ll replace Man United leaders?

Before the last-round match with Fulham, United won five games in a row and, according to their own fans, even claimed a place in the Champions League. United’s rise was due to the return from injury of Casemiro, Lisandro Martinez, and Luke Shaw, as well as the scoring extravaganza of Rasmus Højlund, who scored 6 matches in a row.

However, the barely empty hospital is full again, and after the Danish forward’s injury, Rashford is forced to fill his position. Sir Alex has already said this is not the best option for the team, but there is no alternative to a left winger in the center of attack. In the winter, the club was unable to buy a new forward due to strict financial fair play requirements, and Martial underwent surgery and is unlikely to help the team this season. And Victor Lindelof is not used to playing on the left wing of defense, but there is no alternative to him either.

Fortunately, there is some good news: Alejandro Garnacho is in good shape, Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro are always ready to throw a long pass behind their opponents, Harry Maguire will certainly try to score from a set-piece, and finally, don’t forget about Scott McTominay’s phenomenal scoring instincts.

The new co-owner of the club, Jim Ratcliffe, has grandiose plans for the summer, and it will be much easier to realize them if Manchester United does make it to the Champions League. What is needed for this? For starters, beat City with the optimal lineup.

What to expect

Early in his Manchester United career, Erik Ten Hag tried to play as number one against City, but several setbacks dampened his ardor. Undoubtedly, the Red Devils will rely on solid defensive play and quick counter-attacks. Guardiola’s team has long not attached much importance to the opponent’s style and tries to control the ball and pace in any struggle.
