Exclusive – Alex Iwobi Ready To Quit Super Eagles, Deletes All Pictures From His Page

0

Barring a last minute change of mind Fulham midfielder Alex Iwobi will announce his decision to quit international football with Nigeria, OwnGoalNigeria.com can exclusively reveal.

Iwobi was part of the team that lost 1-2  in yesterday’s Africa Cup of Nations final to the host Cote d’Ivoire. He was subbed off for Alhassan Yusuf during the course of the game.

All through the tournament he has been the target of a lot of critics online for his below par showing and even when he tries to explain how a new role has reduced his efficiency, the criticisms didn’t stop coming.

Capped 76 times by Nigeria, the first of which came in 2015, the 27 year old has also deleted all post and pictures regarding the Super Eagles from his Instagram page. An announcement on his decision to quit international is said to be imminent.

The 2023 AFCON is his third for the team after participating in the 2019 and 2021 editions. He was also a part of the team that played at the 2018 World Cup in Russia, with his goal in the qualifiers against Zambia helping the Super Eagles to seal a spot at the tournament.

However, top members of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) are holding talks with him to have him change his mind on his decision. His uncle Austine Okocha will also be contacted to help speak with him.

0

The contract of Jose Peseiro as coach of the senior national team of Nigeria has expired following the conclusion of the Africa Cup of Nations, OwnGoalNigeria.com can exclusively reveal.

Despite meeting the target of reaching the semi final of the tournament, Peseiro led the Super Eagles all the way to the final where they were beaten 2-1 by the host, however the option of a two year deal is up to him to decide.

As at the time of this report we can exclusively report that the coach no longer has a contract with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) following the expiration of his extended deal which covers the period of the Africa Cup of Nations.

However talks are expected to be held on his future with the minister for youths and sports senator John Enoh keen on the coach staying on with the team set to return to action in March, when the qualifiers for next year Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco begins.

Ekong Shames Oliseh, Voted Most Valuable Player (MVP) Of AFCON Despite Super Eagles Defeat In The Final

0

William Troost-Ekong has been voted as the most valuable player (MVP) of the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) despite Nigeria losing the final 1-2 to the host of the tournament Cote d’Ivoire, OwnGoalNigeria.comreports.

Ekong who scored Nigeria’s lone goal in the final to take his tally at the tournament to three goals after scoring two penalties during the course of the tournament was announced as the best player shortly after the final.

The PAOK defender stood out for the Super Eagles after making his way back into the team after falling out of favour for over a year. He is the MVP of the AFCON seven years after he was told by former Super Eagles coach Sunday Oliseh that he can’t survive African football.

In an interview back in 2018, the PAOK defender revealed how Oliseh dismissed his talent and that of Leon Balogun faulting their orientation in Europe as part of why they can’t survive playing football at international level in Africa.

“My partner at centre-back [new Brighton signing Leon Balogun] is half-German, half-Nigerian, so he is the same as me”, he told the UK Telegraph in 2018.

“After a game, he [Oliseh] said we were too soft to play against African players. “I have played against African strikers since then and no one has bullied me. I have proven my point.

” That upset me because one of my traits as a player is that I am someone who does not back away from anyone. I am not the most skilful, but I know what I am good at.

“I think that’s part of being from different countries, different cultures. It’s not nice when people try to use that against you.

“I identify myself as being Nigerian as well, and I feel at home in the team. Not once have I ever looked around and thought ‘this is not for me’. But it spurred me on”, he rounded up saying.

The award will no doubt make Oliseh, a former captain of the Super Eagles to feel some remorse over his harsh criticism of the 30 year old defender over the fact that he wasn’t born in Africa.

I Don’t Understand Why Nigerians Are Criticizing Me – Super Eagles Head Coach Jose Peseiro

0

Head coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Jose Peseiro says he is surprised at the criticism he suffered ahead of the start of the Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.

Appointed as head coach a little over a year ago following the failure of the team to make it to the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, His tenure hasn’t been smooth sailing for the team.

The coach was discarded by many and seen as one who can’t take the team far, but his team have responded at the Africa Cup of Nations by progressing all the way to the final, where they will take on the host country Cote d’Ivoire in today’s game.

Peseiro was asked if he thinks he has responded to the criticism with the performance of his team, the Portuguese coach said he was even surprised that he was a subject of such vile comments judging by the records of the team before the AFCON.

“Am I surprised to be in the AFCON final? I’ve only lost once in 14 matches. Sometimes I don’t understand the criticism but I try to”, he said during the pre match conference ahead of today’s game.
