Super Eagles Coach Peseiro Expresses Fear Over Osimhen’s Injury Against Saudi Arabia

0

The head coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Jose Peseiro has expressed his fears over the injury picked up by Nigeria international forward Victor Osimhen during the course of the 2-2 friendly game against Saudi Arabia in Portugal yesterday.

Osimhen went off injured in the second half with Terem Moffi replacing him as the arrow head of the attack of the team. The coach was asked about the condition of the Napoli man at the post match conference over the severity of the injury.

Peseiro said it won’t be wise to play the forward in three days time when they take on Mozambique in the second friendly game in order no to aggravate the injury, which could be longer if not managed properly.

He said checks will be done to check on how serious the injury is and Napoli will be put in the picture, as it is their tradition to update clubs about the state of health of their players after a national team camp.

“Victor will go for an MRI check to see the situation. We have a good coordination, contacts and communication with the clubs, I guess you don’t know but when we finish each camping , we send the reports for the clubs, we have connection with the medical team and the coach all of them”, he explained.

“It  is our responsibility is to control the health of our players, he is a fantastic player, Napoli needs him, we need him also . It’s our responsibility this moment and we will do everything. We spoke with the doctor for Portimonense, we will first call the clinic to check.

“I don’t know if he can play or not, it depends on the problem of the muscle but in three days put Osimhen without time off it could be danger. In this moment it’s my opinion, why do you risk one player for injury of one month or two months”, he said about his fears.

”  I like him to play but it’s better you put it in your mind now. He will go for the test, You do the check now and if he does not improve and you must respect the club that pays the salary for him. Not only for Napoli but for all our players”, he rounded up saying.

Head coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Jose Peseiro says the goalkeepers of the senior national team of Nigeria are having a crisis of confidence when they keep goal for the team due to the barrage of attacks from Nigerians, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.

Yesterday the Super Eagles of Nigeria were held to a 2-2 draw by Saudi Arabia with goalkeeper Francis Uzoho inexplicably diverting an aimless free kick into his own net for the game’s opening goal.

Nigeria rallied back and even took a 2-1 lead before a late free kick in time added on ensure that the game against need in a draw. The coach was asked about Uzoho’s error , which is the latest in a series of error prone display he has had for the team.

“I like our players, when they make mistakes it is my responsibility.  The goalkeepers never play free or calm because of the people. I don’t know why they attack the goalkeepers every time.

“Why don’t they attack the strikers when they lose the ball or miss a goal, why?”, he queried.

“When  I arrived here, I remember I was told to change the goalkeeper. I spoke with all of them, No one feels comfortable because everybody attacked them. They could make mistakes, it is my responsibility. Next time I need to train him (Uzoho) better.

Saudi Arabia 2-2 Nigeria: Player Ratings, Top Marks For Simon, Iheanacho, Boniface

0

The Super Eagles of Nigeria came from behind to beat Saudi Arabia 2-1 in an international friendly game played in Portugal, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.

We rate the players on parade for Nigeria.

Francis Uzoho – Looked very calm, composed and decisive with the ball at his feet. Distributed it nicely and came off his line quickly to deny Saudi Arabia the chance to take the lead.  Spoilt all the good things he did by inexplicably diverting a free kick into his net in an attempt to tip it over the bar….. 4/10

Tyronne Ebuehi – Not at his usual marauding best and didn’t do his chance of reclaiming his spot any good….. 4/10

Bruno Onyemaechi –  Had his man locked down, joined the attack with ease and whipped in a telling cross that Osimhen should have connected with properly. Didn’t put a foot wrong….. 7/10

Calvin Bassey – His partnership with Ajayi is burgeoning but still need time to be up there. Had a solid showing overall…… 7/10

Semi Ajayi – Showed why he is currently favoured ahead of vice captain William Troost-Ekong. His passes were spot on and helped the team build easily from the back…. 7/10

Wilfred Ndidi – A totally different player from the one we used to see in the green white green of green of Nigeria. Ran the midfield with ease alongside Alex Iwobi. Another strong showing for the Super Eagles….. 7/10

Alex Iwobi – Not scared of taking risks. Complimented Ndidi very well and covered a lot of grounds….. 7/10

Samuel Chukwueze – Had one telling moment when his play set up Lookman for the best chance of the first half. Other than that he had a game to forget with his decision making in key areas his biggest drawback….. 3/10

Victor Boniface –  A performance that deserves a goal and he thought he got one to level scores but it was given as an own goal. Made it impossible for the defenders of Saudi Arabia to have time on the ball. Has cemented a spot in the team….. 8/10

Ademola Lookman – Wasted two big chances to give Nigeria the lead. Not at his level in anyway….. 4/10

Victor Osimhen – Had a good chance to give Nigeria the lead but didn’t have proper connection to make it count. Put himself around brilliantly before going off injured….. 6/10

Substitute:

Bright Osayi-Samuel – Had a better showing than Ebuehi at right back despite playing lesser minutes….. 6/10

Moses Simon – His introduction changed the game for Nigeria. Provided the cross that led to the own goal and also had a hand in the second goal. He was really good….. 8/10

Terem Moffi – Held the line really well and ran the channels brilliantly…… 6/10

Kelechi Iheanacho – Scored a trademark curler go give Nigeria the lead. Made a really good impression…… 8/10

Sadiq Umar – Not enough to earn a rating

Joe Aribo –

Iheanacho’s Spectacular Goal Not Enough To Lift Super Eagles To Comeback Win Over Saudi Arabia

0

The Super Eagles of Nigeria came from behind to beat Saudi Arabia 2-1 in an international friendly game played in Portugal, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.

Head coach Jose Peseiro stuck with his preferred two man attack with Victor Boniface pairing Victor Osimhen in attack. As good their combination was it couldn’t provide a breakthrough for Nigeria in the first half.

One minute after the hour mark, Saudi Arabia took the lead in a rather bizarre way with Francis Uzoho diverting an aimless free kick into his own net in an attempt to tip it over the bar.

Nigeria rallied back to draw level in the 73rd minute with substitute Moses Simon having a cross aimed at Boniface diverted into the net by Abdulelah Al-Amri all in his efforts to clear the cross.

Simon was once again involved with the second goal with his layoff for Terem Moffi getting cleared onto the path of Kelechi Iheanacho, who curled home a beauty of an effort from the edge of the box for what he thought was the winner.

However a late free kick in time added on saw Saudi Arabia draw level.

Peseiro Reveals Real Reason Why He Didn’t Include Musa, Ekong In Super Eagles Squad For Friendly Games

0

Head coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Jose Peseiro has given the reason why the captain and vice captain of the team weren’t included in the list of players for the upcoming friendly games against Saudi Arabia and Mozambique respectively.

The duo of Ahmed Musa and William Troost-Ekong were conspicuously missing from the 25 man list called up for both games which will be played on Friday and Sunday in Portugal. The games are meant to prepare the team for the start of the World Cup qualifiers in November.

Ahead of the games, the coach was asked about the absence of the duo and he gave different reasons for both of them with that of Ahmed Musa more to do with documentation as he couldn’t secure a visa, but that of Ekong he said it was his decision because he wants to see other options in the position he plays.

” Ahmed Musa didn’t come because he has a problem with getting a visa. For Ekong is an option, he belong to the group but for this camping I decided to check others. I need to check Torunarigha , I still could have called Ekong but I called Chidozie Awaziem because he could only play with us once last year, he deserves a chance also. We know the quality of Ekong so he can wait for the next camping”, he rounded up saying on their absence.

He rounded up saying that Kenneth Omeruo will wear the captain armband for today’s game and not Wilfred Ndidi, who was captain in the game against Sao Tome and Principe in Uyo last month.

Revealed – The Game That Earned Fisayo Dele-Bashiru An Invitation To Be Super Eagles Number 10

0

When the list of players called up to the senior national team of Nigeria for the friendly games against Saudi Arabia and Mozambique respectively was made public, the name Fisayo Dele-Bashiru came out as a surprise to many.

However the 22 year old isn’t new to the Nigerian set up as he took part in the camping exercise of the Nigeria U20 team in 2019 but didn’t make the cut. His elder brother Tom Dele-Bashiru now at Watford made the team and subsequently played for the U23 team.

Two years later Fisayo was cut loose by Manchester City and he took two steps down to League 1, where he joined Sheffield Wednesday. He blossomed and helped the team secured promotion to the English Championship.

His elder brother was more on the radar of head coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Jose Peseiro, with the coach keeping a close watch on his development at Watford after suffering two major setbacks due to injury.

It was while keeping an eye on Tom, that he was made aware of Fisayo who just moved to Turkish side Hatayspor. His name was immediately added to the list of potential midfielders but no imminent plan for a call up.

All of that changed in the game against Trabzonspor, with Peseiro’s backroom team keen on watching how Paul Onuachu who recently moved to the team will acquit himself, it was another player who caught the eyes.

Aside scoring in the game, the newly invited Super Eagles midfielder was by far the best player on the pitch with an assist and his late match winning goal the crown to his performance.

That game on the 25th of September was the turning point in the head of Peseiro, who two weeks later handed him his first call up and will hopefully hand him his debut in one of the two test games, meant to prepare the team for the start of the World Cup qualifiers and also next year Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire.
