One of the vice captains of the senior national team of Nigeria Moses Simon has been ranked as the second fastest player in the French top division this season after four round of games, OwnGoalNigeria.comreports.

Simon is into his fifth season with Ligue 1 side Nantes including the one season he spent on loan from Levante. So far he has one assist to his name aside winning a penalty, which was converted.

In a report on the fastest players in the league this season by 90min.com , the 28 year old was ranked only behind Jonathan Claus of Marseille. Placing him above PSG and France national team star Kylian Mbappe in the games played in the league so far.

He has also been rated as the most productive Super Eagles winger under new coach Jose Peseiro according to former Super Eagles defender Efe Ambrose, while analyzing the team under the Portuguese.

” Simon to me is the best under the new coach among the wingers. He had two assists against Sierra Leone to help them come from behind and win 2-1. A goal from the spot against Guinea Bissau in a delicate away tie. I am not sure people realized how much that game meant after the loss at home but he took it without any pressure”, the AFCON 2013 winner said.

Pressed on if there is any chance of the shot stopper making the switch to Nigeria in time for the Africa Cup of Nations next year. He categorically said that isn’t possible because a decision on switching to Nigeria hasn’t been made yet.

He said the end of the season will be the appropriate time to consider such move. The aim for now is making the best of the opportunity he is currently enjoying as first choice.

World football governing body FIFA has released the final 12 man shortlist for the Best award, which is the award for the best player in the world and will take place later this year, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.

The qualification period for the Best FIFA Football Awards 2023 runs from 19 December 2022 to 20 August 2023 (it does NOT include the World Cup 2022, according to an explanation by FIFA.

Head coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Jose Peseiro has explained why he hasn’t played the same pair in centre defence for Nigeria since taking over as coach of the team, OwnGoalNigeria.comreports.

Last weekend against Sao Tome and Principe, the Portuguese coach played the pair of Semi Ajayi and Calvin Bassey for the first time and they helped the team keep a clean sheet in a comfortable 6-0 win.

Prior to that game, only the pair of Semi Ajayi and Kenneth Omeruo have played at the heart of the defence of Super Eagles in back to back games.  A situation that led to question about the reason why it is always changing shortly after the win over Sao Tome and Principe.

This is the first time in a long while that there is a constant change in the Super Eagles in that key area of the team.

” We have players who I like a lot and play them based on several options. For this game Kenneth Omeruo is suspended and it’s a good time to try a new option with Calvin Bassey and Semi Ajayi. A lot of things keeps the defence changing but I love and rate all of them for any game I pick them”, the coach explained.

English Premier League side Nottingham Forest have made public the list of 25 senior players officially registered by the club for their campaign in the English Premier League, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.

In their list, the club included two senior internationals for Nigeria in Ola Aina and Taiwo Awoniyi but had no place for 25 year old Emmanuel Dennis, a £10m signing from Watford a year ago.

To that extent, he is keeping a close watch on Nigeria U20 shot stoppers Chijioke Anigboso who recently moved to Ukrainian side Polissya, but he feels the AFCON which will be in January might come too soon for the 19 year old.

The Portuguese coach has a list of all young goalkeepers eligible for Nigeria and per what we exclusively gathered on loan Arsenal goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo is high on his list .

Okonkwo who has represented England at various youth levels is on loan to League 2 side Wrexham after two highly successful loan spell at Crewe and Austrian side Sturm Graz. Peseiro is keeping a close eye on him since he was mentioned to him last year.

For now he looks the most likely to be a part of the team but the 22 year old still need to officially apply for a switch of nationality and hope it gets cleared on time before next year.
