Exclusive – How Super Eagles Coach Chelle Lost Faith In NPFL Players

0

Head coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Eric Chelle didn’t include any player from the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) in his team for the AFCON, where they finished third in Morocco.

The coach also ignored them in his latest list of players for the upcoming friendly tournament in Turkey, where they will be up against world cup bound Iran and Jordan respectively.

There was no spot in the list that was made public yesterday for players in the Nigerian league, although sources close to the coach say he is likely to include at most two of them when the team play in friendly games in June.

Revealing more our source said Chelle’s lack of faith in players from the NPFL , it’s largely on their understanding of how he wants his team to play and their inability to cope with his high press, aggressive and pacy style.

He said at the Unity Cup in England last summer, a couple of home based players failed to keep up with his fitness drills and demands, but at that time it was said that the fact that they were deep in the season played a role in their inability to cope.

The final straw was the CHAN tournament, where they completed capitulated under his instructions and demands. Ironically it was the same formation that the Super Eagles used at the AFCON and blew everyone away until they got stuck in the semi final where they lost to Morocco on penalties.

Chelle will no doubt take a look at them in league games, before making any decision on inviting them in the future. In previous times he relied more on recommendations but the players failed to live up.

Not A Striker – Newly Invited Super Eagles Player Explains His Role

0

Newly invited forward Philip Otele says his main role is on the flanks although he has also played as a lone striker or behind the main striker in a two man attack, OwnGoalNigeria.com can exclusively reveal.

On loan from Swiss side FC Basel to Hamburg he has been on the radar of Chelle for the past six months, with his performance in the Europa League catching the attention of the coach.

The 26 year old was included in the Super Eagles squad for the first time by head coach Eric Chelle, and he celebrated his call up with a goal against Borussia Dortmund in the German Bundesliga, but his team let a two goal lead slip to lose 2-3.

He now has one goal and assist for his loan side in seven games, operating mainly on the left flank or behind the striker. His representative said he was shock to see reports in Nigeria terming him as a striker.

” Otele was surprised to see such reports because he is mainly a winger. He has only played once as a striker in the past two years and once behind the striker. He is a winger and that is where he has played in majorly all of his senior career till date”, he explained.

Wrexham goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo was denied a chance of teaming up with the senior national team of Nigeria by the English FA, OwnGoalNigeria.com can exclusively reveal.

Nigeria will take part in a four team tournament in Turkey, Involving Iran, Jordan and Costa Rica. It was originally billed to take place in Jordan but was moved due to the escalation of violence in the Middle East.

Super Eagles won’t be at the world cup, but will use the tournament to begin the second phase of the rebuild of the team under Chelle, who led the team to a third place finish at the AFCON in January.

They will open their campaign at the tournament against Iran on the 27th of March, while Jordan take on Costa Rica in the tournament’s other game.

Okonkwo was handed a first time call up to the Nigerian team by head coach of the team Eric Chelle on the account of his performances for English Championship side Wrexham, he decided to commit his international future to Nigeria after representing England at various youth levels.

” Even though he didn’t play for England in any major competition or games. He is still required to be cleared by the association because he is registered with FIFA as an England international. So just like it was for Promise David who didn’t play for Nigeria but needed association clearance. That’s what Okonkwo needed”, a source explained.

” Chelle included him in the list with the hope that the letter will come through, but it didn’t. His case is different from Emmanuel Fernandez of Rangers but similar to that of Alex Iwobi who required the same process to play for Super Eagles”, he concluded.

For Felix Agu of Werder Bremen he is still highly rated by Chelle but was left out as he just returned from a lengthy injury layoff. Ryan Alebiosu wasn’t included due to club engagement with his team Blackburn Rovers facing the prospect of relegation.

Stanley Nwabali was left out due to his inactivity like we exclusively reported earlier, while Ola Aina’s case is similar to that of Agu and related to Ryan as his team are in a relegation dog fight, and also he just returned from a long injury layoff that cost him the AFCON.

Ebenezer Akinsamiro was left out due to insufficient game time since his return from the AFCON, just like Tochukwu Nnadi who hasn’t got going since joining French Ligue 1 side Marseille from Belgium side Zulte Waregem.

Goal & Two Assists : Forgotten Super Eagles Star Delight In Portugal Again

Capped once by Nigeria at senior level in 2021 by former coach Gernot Rohr , Marcus Abraham of Portuguese side Estrela Amadora has been in the wilderness for almost six years.

He played in the double header friendly game against Cameroon as a 20 year old, viewed as a future prospect who will grow into becoming a mainstay of the team.

That dream failed to materialise, but this season he is delivering on the promises that made FC Porto to sign him for the B team four years ago. He however failed to make a breakthrough to the senior team leading to his exit in the summer.

At Estrela he has become a regular with five goals and five assists in 24 games for the modest team, who are 12th on the league table. On Friday he had two assists and a goal in their 4-0 win over Casa Pia.

His form caught the eyes of Brazilian top division side Atletico Paranaense who made a bid for his signing, but Estrela declined believing that in the summer he will be worth more and could move to a top team in a top European League.

Like we exclusively reported, the coach handed invitation to three new players in Emmanuel Fernandez of Scottish side Rangers, Philip Otele of Belgium side Hamburg and Yira Sor of Belgium side Genk.

Sor is rated among the fastest players in Europe, and Chelle was blown away when he watched him in a recent league game. He is the new winger we reported yesterday.
