Fulham Submits £15m Bid For Super Eagles Defender

0

English Premier League side Fulham have joined Brighton in the race to sign Nigeria international defender Calvin Bassey, OwnGoalNigeria.comreports.

Since joining Ajax, the Nigeria international has made 39 appearances, scoring one goal and providing five assists, but Bassey hasn’t settled at Ajax since his big money move from Scottish side Rangers and it has led to talks of a possible exit before the end of the ongoing summer transfer window.

Brighton were the first team to signify their interest in signing the 23 year old but while they are yet to submit a formal bid, Fulham have moved ahead of them by submitting a written offer of £15m.

Coach of Fulham Marco Silva is a big admirer of the Nigerian as this is the second time he has tried to sign the former Leicester City trainee, who is comfortable as a left full back or central defender. Ajax are yet to respond to the offer.

It is believed that Leverkusen will use part of the money they will make from the possible departure of Moussa Diaby to Saudi Arabia side Al Nassr to fund the move for the Nigerian. Diaby is also a subject of interest to Aston Villa and Arsenal but Al Nassr so far have offered him the most in personal terms.

‘A New Signing’ – Coach Of LaLiga Side Excited Over Return To Full Fitness Of Super Eagles Striker

0

With teams back in training in preparation for next season, coaches have been taking a look at new signings to see how they will fit into their system of play when the season resumes, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.

However to some coaches players returning from injury lay off and taking part in all of the drills during pre season is seen as having a new player in their ranks, particularly if the player has been out injured for a while.

That much is the case with Real Sociedad and their Nigerian forward Sadiq Umar, who was out for the major part of last season after picking up a knee injury after six games following his move to the team from Almeria. He scored three goals in the games.

After spending seven months on the sidelines, Sadiq is back to full fitness and in the eyes of coach Imanol Alguacil, the 26 year old is like a new signing especially the manner which he has played since the start of pre season test games.

He followed up his goal in training with another well finished effort in their first test game of the season. His return to full fitness coincides with the team facing difficulties in signing players due to financial issues, further making him look like a new signing.

Out Of Favour Super Eagles Winger Favours Staying In Germany, Rejects Cardiff City

0

English Championship side Cardiff City have missed out on a chance to sign Nigeria international winger Chidera Ejuke on a season long loan deal, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.

Ejuke for the second consecutive season took the advantage of suspending his contract with Russian side CSKA Moscow as approved by FIFA due to the unrest in Russia, making him eligible to join any team of his choice.

Last season he was at German Bundesliga side Hertha Berlin, who were relegated at the end of the season. After suspending his contract few weeks ago, Cardiff City offered him a contract which will see him spend a season with them.

Their offer was however rejected with the agent and the player agreeing on exploring other options, top of which is another stint in Germany following contacts with teams keen on acquiring him. Union Berlin is reportedly among the teams weighing up the prospect of having him on loan.

25 year old Ejuke battled injuries and fitness issues for the most part of last season limiting him to 20 game mostly as a substitute. He ended the season with three assists as he failed to hit the back of the net.

FIFA Warns NFF On “Oyibo Eagles” – Homegrown Talents Best For Success Of Senior National Team

0

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) have been  warned to focus more on developing the game from the grassroots and getting players from the youth team progress to the senior national team, as it is the first recipe for success, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.

Nigeria have been very active in luring players born abroad at the expense of developing the game from the grassroots, especially during the tenure of Amaju Pinnick as president of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).

Pinnick’s lack of interest in the development of the game from youth levels affected the youth teams of Nigeria, with his eight years stay as president of the NFF rated as the worse ever for youth football in the history of Nigeria.

It affected the development and subsequent graduation of players from the youth teams to the senior teams. Pinnick’s focus was solely on the Super Eagles, something his successor Ibrahim Musa Gusau have been warned not to emulate.

High performance analyst at FIFA Faisal Chibsah gave the above warning as part of his speech welcoming the NFF to the FIFA Development Scheme (TDS).

“Today, we took a giant step in welcoming the the NFF to the FIFA Talent Development Scheme”, s statement on his Twitter handle reads.

“Naija (Nigeria)  🇳🇬 remains a powerhouse in @CAF_Online ⚽️ and the TDS will support the creation of a National performance plan that outlines a mission and vision for talent development.

“First steps taken, in close collaboration with key stakeholders, to identify the strengths and weaknesses of the MA’s performance in all areas – from strategic planning to implementing a national playing philosophy with set targets to provide direction for those working across the game”, the post reads.

He rounded it up with a call to the Gusau led football body to focus on developing the game with home grown players, which he said is the first step for success at senior level. “High quality, home-grown players are the cornerstone of any successful senior team and domestic competition”.
