0

Francis Uzoho has joined Omonia Nicosia on a free transfer less than 24 hours after terminating his deal with fellow Cyprus side Apoel Nicosia, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.

Apoel Nicosia announced that Uzoho has terminated the three year deal he signed with them just one year into his stay. They however said any benefit accrued from his possible participation with Nigeria at the next World Cup will go to them.

The 22 year old is returning to Omonia where he spent 2019 on loan from Deportivo La Coruna before his permanent transfer to Omonia Nicosia last summer. In his first spell he made five appearances before an injury picked up on international duty with Nigeria saw him miss the rest of the season.

Presently in the camp of the national team of Nigeria in preparation for the start of the 2022 World Cup, Omonia will be his third club in Cyprus with Anorthosis Famagusta the other team he has played for in same country.

An announcement by the club on their official website revealed he signed a three year deal.

Yesterday the senior national team of Nigeria had their first full training ahead of Friday’s World Cup 2022 qualifiers game against Liberia at the Teslim Balogun stadium.

OwnGoalNigeria.com witnessed the session that had twenty of the 29 players expected for the game with the duo of Alex Iwobi and Jamilu Collins exempted from the latter stage of the training.

Maduka Okoye missed the session but two goalkeepers in Francis Uzoho and Daniel Akpeyi were in attendance. Four players namely Zaidu Sanusi, Joe Aribo, Paul Onuachu and Chidozie Awaziem are yet to join up with the team.

We pick the five players who were impressive during the course of the one hour, forty five minutes session held under the supervision of head coach of the team Gernot Rohr.

Kelechi Iheanacho was arguably the star of the session, the Leicester City man scores two well taken goals, the first of which was a one time shot from a headed pass by Osimhen who was also a handful for the duo of Leon Balogun and William Ekong.

Osimhen and Iheanacho were swift in their movement and severally dragged central back pairing of Balogun and Ekong out of position. It was no surprise that their team ended up as winners with both players getting on the score sheet.

Bologna midfielder Kingsley Michael was a class act all through the session as he was strong in duels, neat in possession and also distributions. It was his well weighted long pass from his half to Osimhen that started the move to the scorcher scorer by Iheanacho.

Terem Moffi was another who was lively and deadly all through. He took up promising position from which he scored a goal and his hold up play was also impressive.

Nantes of France winger Moses Simon showed why he is the top assist man for Ligue 1 side Nantes with several telling balls into danger areas for his teammates to finish. He was also very useful in defence as he provided cover for Ola Aina who played behind him as the right back.

Five Things We Noticed In Super Eagles Training Including Likely Formation For The Game

Yesterday the senior national team of Nigeria had their first training session ahead of Friday’s 2022 World Cup qualifiers game against Liberia.

The session lasted for one hours, forty five minutes with as many as twenty players taking part in the full duration of the training. Alex Iwobi and Jamilu Collins trained separately.

OwnGoalNigeria.com watched the session and picked out five things we noticed for the period it lasted.

Uzoho Will Likely Return As First Choice :  Right from when the goalkeepers were drilled by Alloy Agu. Uzoho stood out in the absence of Maduka Okoye. His stunning double save from a free kick from Victor Osimhen and the rebound from Chidera Ejuke drew huge applause. He was very impressive as he bid to wrestle his number one spot from Okoye.

Rohr’s Emergency Left Back Situation : In the absence of Zaidu Sanusi and Jamilu Collins who trained separately. Coach of the Super Eagles Gernot Rohr fielded Valentine Ozornwafor and Tyronne Ebuehi at left back during the practice game.

If push comes to shove Ebuehi might likely get the nod as he played alongside the trio of Leon Balogun, Ola Aina and William Ekong who are all sure to be in the starting line up on Friday.

Iheanacho And Osimhen In Attack :  Barring a last minute change of mind . The attack of the Nigerian team will be led by the duo of Kelechi Iheanacho and Victor Osimhen. Yesterday’s session they were the deadly as a pair with Iheanacho scoring a brace while Osimhen was also on target. They gave Leon Balogun and Willam Ekong all sort of problems.

Return Of Oyibo Wall: It’s certain that the central defence combination of William Troost Ekong and Leon Balogun will be the preferred choice for the coach on Friday. They were instrumental to Nigeria’s smooth run to the 2018 World Cup. They will be hoping to maintain same form starting from Friday.

Eagles Will Likely Play 4-2-4: A four man attack with two wingers is likely what the Super Eagles will use against Liberia on Friday. For now two holding midfielders in Oghenekaro Etebo and Wilfred Ndidi are sure to be the men in the middle but it could change if Joe Aribo makes it to the camp before Friday.

Goals Is Why We Signed Super Eagles Forward On Loan From Genk – Feyenoord Director Explains

The technical director of Dutch Eredivisie side Feyenoord has revealed what convinced the club to loan Nigerian striker Cyriel Dessers from Belgium side Genk.

Spanish second division side Leganes were favourites to sign the 26 year old but a late offer from Feyenoord proved to be too much to ignored as he has always wanted a return to the Dutch League, where he had stints with NAC Breda, FC Utrecht and Heracles.

He had his most successful spell at Heracles and it earned him the move to his boyhood Belgium team Genk but things hasn’t worked out so far. Despite the set back he still has the reputation of a feared striker in the Netherlands.

Feyenoord director, Frank Arnesen in the announcement confirming the loan signing of the Nigeria international on the club website explained why they settled for him.

‘”An experienced attacker who stands his ground in attack ,’ the technical director Arnesen explains. “Cyriel has proven that he has the ability to score and we are convinced that he will also show that at Feyenoord. Moreover, his arrival means that we have more options to choose from in the front, which is no superfluous luxury given our busy schedule.’

His first goal was started by Kingsley Michael who showed his vision with a long pass from the back to Victor Osimhen who set up Iheanacho for the goal with a nicely cushion header.

Osimhen under pressure from Ekong didn’t look disturbed as he met the pass with a header onto the path of Iheanacho whose first time volley with the ball still in the air left Francis Uzoho helpless.

Iheanacho was on hand again to finish off a well worked team move which with Chidera Ejuke laying a low cross for him to finish with ease. Osimhen scored the third goal for the team.

Goals from Samuel Kalu and Terem Moffi wasn’t enough to cancel out the brace and solitary strike from Osimhen as their team won the game 3-2 and pose for picture as the winning team afterwards.

Green – Uzoho, Musa, Simon, Moffi, Ndidi, Balogun, Aina, Ebuehi, Samuel Kalu, Etebo, Ekong.

They took part in the warm up exercise with the rest of the team but after that weren’t part of the practice match which took place later on during the session.

It’s still unclear why they didn’t take part in the full session but it appears to be fitness related as they trained separately with the physical trainer of the team.

Both players will likely take part in tomorrow’s session as they came through the drills with the fitness coach unscathed. A total of 20 players took part in the full session with two goalkeepers in Francis Uzoho and Daniel Akpeyi.

The third goalkeeper in the squad Maduka Okoye who is also the first choice goalkeeper was conspicuously missing from the session entirely.
