The newly crowned first choice goalkeeper of the senior national team of Nigeria Stanley Nwabali got the shirt of Cameroon’s goalkeeper Andre Onana after helping Nigeria to a 2-0 win in the round of 16 at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast, OwnGoalNigeria.comreports.

Nwabali was subbed off with an injury with around 20 minutes left to play in the game, while Onana was an unused substitute with his cousin Fabrice Ondoa preferred by coach Rigobert Song to start ahead of him.

After the game, Onana handed his shirt to Nwabali after a hug and a brief chat. The Chippa United goalkeeper proudly displayed the shirt on his official handle on X formerly known as Twitter and it drew a lot of reactions from Nigerians, with majority terming the shirt of the underfire Manchester United goalkeeper as a bad omen.

Onana hasn’t covered himself in glory since his move to Manchester United from Ajax, at the AFCON he started only one game after arriving late before the first game due to club commitment. He was in goal for the 1-3 defeat suffered in the hands of Senegal in their second group game.

His not too impressive stats between the sticks lately was largely the reason behind the jibes aimed at Nwabali by some Nigerians when he posted the shirt he got from the 27 year old.
