The senior national team of Nigeria stepped up their preparations for the Africa Cup of Nations with a full training session at their camp in Abu Dhabi, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.

Yesterday they had two gruelling sessions under the watchful eyes of head coach of the team Jose Peseiro alongside his assistants. As many as 23 players took part in the evening session following the arrival of team’s top striker Victor Osimhen.

As at the time of this report only two players in William Troost-Ekong who is expected this morning and Kelechi Iheanacho who will join the team in Nigeria before they depart for Cote d’Ivoire if he passes a fitness test.

The major high point of the session was the decision of the coach to line the team in a new formation different from the 4-2-4 formation. The formation he has played since he took over as coach of the team over a year ago.

Peseiro had them lined up in a 4-3-3 formation with the players likely to start against Guinea in their test game on Monday up against the other players, who will likely be on the bench for the game.

Newly invited goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali stood out with his reflexes and ball handling abilities. His ability to play with his feet under pressure also caught the eyes especially when he hit a near forty yards pass to help his team make the transition from defence to attack.

Among the outfield players Nantes of France winger Moses Simon gave all sorts of problems for Bright Osayi-Samuel who was up against him during the session. He created more chances than any other player during the duration of the session.

Nigeria under 20 World Cup star Benjamin Fredrick has been included in the Brentford squad for a crunch FA cup tie against Wolves at the Gtech Community Stadium by coach Thomas Frank.

Coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Jose Peseiro has started the preparation for the Africa Cup of Nations by focusing on the defence of the team, which is one of their weak points going into the Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire.

The team are already in Abu Dhabi training for the tournament with 23 out of the 25 players called up to the team already at their camp under the watchful eyes of Peseiro and his assistants.

A test game against Guinea on the 8th of January has been agreed by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to help shape the team up for the challenge of doing well at the tournament, the team will leave the camp after the game.

Peseiro will use the game to try out a new partnership in defence with Semi Ajayi of West Brom who has paired Calvin Bassey in the last six game of the team getting the axe in favor of Kenneth Omeruo.

Omeruo will get the nod to stake a claim for a spot in the team in the game against Guinea with Peseiro finally admitting that pairing Semi with Bassey hasn’t worked bar the game against Sao Tome and Principe in Uyo.

In the two training sessions of the team, the coach has focused on the duo as he bid to build some synergy between them ahead of the game against Guinea and probably the AFCON, which begins on the 13th with Nigeria playing their first game of the tournament on the 14th of January.

The coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Jose Peseiro will be smiling to the bank soon following the approval of his backlog of salaries ahead of the start of the Africa Cup of Nations, OwnGoalNigeria.com can exclusively reveal.

Peseiro’s salary hasn’t been regular with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) struggling to meet up with paying him as and at when due on a deal, which was agreed with the former board of the NFF under Amaju Pinnick and former sports minister Sunday Dare, who claimed he has gotten approval for the salaries of the coach to be paid by the federal government.

Former captain of the senior national team of Nigeria John Obi Mikel has picked the two areas that could stop Super Eagles from winning the Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire.

The tournament begins on the 13th of January with Nigeria who are in the same group with the host playing their first game on the 14th against Equatorial Guinea. The first group game will be between the host and Guinea Bissau.

Head coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Jose Peseiro has retained the services of Nuno Carrapato as the goalkeeper coach of the team ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations, OwnGoalNigeria.com can exclusively reveal.

Carrapato trained the goalkeepers ahead of the friendly games against Saudi Arabia and Mozambique respectively in the absence of the substantive trainer of the team Abideen Baruwa due to visa issues.
