Inter Milan Takes First Step Towards Signing Kelechi Iheanacho From Leicester City

0

Italian Serie A giants Inter Milan have indicated their willingness to take advantage of the contract situation of Kelechi Iheanacho at Leicester City by signing their interest to sign the Nigerian, OwnGoalNigeria.comunderstands.

Iheanacho will be out of contract in the summer and there is no talk of an extension to his deal with the club focused on regaining promotion back to the English Premier League, following relegation to the English Championship last season.

The Nigerian has been heavily involved with four goals in 11 games this season helping them to stay top of the championship. His form and contract situation hasn’t gone unnoticed with Inter Milan willing to test the waters with a deal to sign him next summer.

According to FC Inter News, Inter Milan who were linked with Iheanacho this summer have registered their interest but are not fully sure of making a move yet. A firm decision will be made at the start of next year after various assessments on the player, who will be free to sign a pre contract with teams abroad around that time.

He isn’t the only free player they are linked with, making a decision on his possible signing a little bit more complex than it seems.

Osimhen Out Of Super Eagles World Cup Qualifiers Game, Peseiro Keen On Ajax Number 10

0

Napoli forward Victor Osimhen has been ruled out of the senior national team of Nigeria first two games in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, OwnGoalNigeria.com can exclusively reveal.

Osimhen picked up an injury during the Super Eagles 2-2 draw against Saudi Arabia, forcing him out of the 3-2 win over Mozambique in their second friendly game played yesterday.

He returned to Italy and after test it showed he will be out for a minimum of six weeks, effectively ruling him out of the Super Eagles game against Lesotho in Uyo and the game against Zimbabwe four days later in Harare.

Head coach of the Nigerian team Jose Peseiro isn’t losing sleep over his absence as he has faith in the other players available to him in attack, but his major headache is that they are  mostly similar in their style of play with Victor Boniface, the only one suited to the role behind the striker in his favorite two man attack.

It explains why he is keen on having Ajax forward Chuba Akpom in the mix as soon as possible. He feels that role is the main strength of the Ajax number 10 as he scored 28 goals to emerge as the top scorer in the English Championship last season while at Middlesbrough.

He is yet to get going at Ajax with the club in turmoil but Peseiro has faith in what he showed last season and he is convinced that he will be a good addition to the team. However there is still no valid update on his nationality switch from England, where he was a youth international to Nigeria.

The last we heard was that the switch of being held up due to the fact that he hasn’t been issued a Nigerian passport yet.

Unhappy Peseiro Blast Super Eagles Display Despite Win Over Mozambique – I’m Not Happy

0

Coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Jose Peseiro says he is unhappy with the performance of his team in their 3-2 win over ten man Mozambique, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.

Nigeria ended a run of 15 friendly games without a win with a win over Mozambique in their second friendly game in preparation for the start of the world cup 2026 qualifiers in November.

Goals from Terem Moffi, Frank Onyeka and Moses Simon helped Nigeria to a comeback win but the Portuguese coach was left unhappy with the entire display of his team, particularly in the second half where he felt they were poor in their decision making and also wasteful in front of goal .

He lamented their lack of concentration at 3-1 with Mozambique reduced to ten men. It is the first time that the coach has been critical of the performance of his team since taking over as coach over a year ago.

“Looking at the game especially the second half I didn’t like the performance, I expected more concentration. Our team is better than Mozambique, we needed to concentrate on finishing, good passing.

My players felt at 3-1 and against 10 everything is done, I didn’t like that. There were many opportunities, we saw players go one on one win the keeper and didn’t score so I’m not happy.

“I prefer the match against Saudi Arabia because they put in much concentration but today’s game I didn’t like it.

“My players had the chance to score up to eight goals because they created many opportunities. There was no good crosses, no good finishing, nothing came out of our corner kicks.

“I’m happy because we won but my players need to understand that I’m not happy”, he told the official broadcast channel of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).

Bruno Onyemaechi- Should have done better for the cross that led to the goal. Bar that incident he was solid, however it was his foul that led to the second goal for Mozambique….. 6/10

Kenneth Omeruo – Had a very good commanding performance. Ensured that Osayi-Samuel got enough cover to bomb forward…… 7/10

Jordan Torunarigha – Showed good understanding of his role as the left sided defender. Didn’t look out of his place despite playing his first game for the team. Rapidly quick in recoveries and likes a tackle…… 7/10

Fisayo Dele-Bashiru – Understood his role wide on the right and kept it simple. Had a hand in the equalizer by Moffi and also the second goal by Onyeka. Did a whole lot of good to his chances of getting another invitation…… 6/10

Joe Aribo – Battled really hard in the middle and put his body where it hurts. Not the “Royce Royce’ kind of performance he is known for but a huge step up from his previous showings….. 6/10

Moses Simon – Drives the team with his energetic runs and defensive contributions. Took his penalty really well and was lively as usual…….. 8/10

Terem Moffi – Showed a real determination to get on the score sheet and he did. Made sure the defence of Mozambique had no rest and on the strength of his performance might be back in the squad in November….. 7/10

The Super Eagles of Nigeria picked up their first friendly win since 2019 with a 3-2 win over ten man Mozambique in what was their second game in preparation for the start of the qualifiers for the World Cup in November.

Nigeria found themselves trailing as early as the 6th minute when goalkeeper Francis Uzoho was caught in no man’s land from a cross allowing Geny Catamo to tap the ball into the net.

Terem Moffi drew Nigeria level in the 19th minute with a ferocious drive from inside the box. Frank Onyeka made it 2-1 to Nigeria with another belter from the edge of the box.

Any hope of Mozambique mounting a fight back was extinguished when Edmilson was sent off for a foul on Joe Aribo who was bearing down on goal after robbing his man off the ball.

It became 3-1 not long after when a Mozambique defender handled the ball in the box. Moses Simon stood up and smashed the ball into the net to give the Nigerian side a commanding 3-1 lead as both teams lead into the half time break.

Ten minutes after the restart, Mozambique pulled one back with Faisal Bangal turning home a free kick from the edge of the Super Eagles box.

Why Super Eagles Will Continue To Play With Four Offensive Players – Peseiro Explains

0

Head coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Jose Peseiro has explained why the senior national team of Nigeria plays with four offensive players, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.

Since taking over as coach of the Nigerian team, the Portuguese has lined the team in a 4-4-2 formation, which becomes 4-2-4 when the team attacks. A formation that is far from the 4-3-3 used by former coach Gernot Rohr for almost five years. Occasionally Rohr plays 3-5-2.

Explaining why he has refused to rejig the formation shortly after the 2-2 draw against Saudi Arabia, Peseiro said it’s the best and surest way to put to use the avalanche of talents available to the team in attack.

” Our strength in terms of players quality lies in attack, so we have to use effectively but I also know that you can’t play all attacking players in your team. You can’t win like that, so we look for balance and all through the team everyone is important for us to achieve results”, the Portuguese coach said.

Peseiro will likely use the same formation later today when they take on Mozambique in their second friendly game in preparation for the start of the qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup in November.

We gathered that he has the trust and faith of Nuno Carrapato who was drafted in as emergency cover to train the goalkeepers, when the substantive goalkeeper trainer Abideen Baruwa had visa issues ahead of the first friendly game against Saudi Arabia which ended in a 2-2 draw.

Carrapato worked with head coach of the Super Eagles Jose Peseiro at Portuguese side CD Nacional and the former goalkeeper who had a stint with lot of clubs in Portugal, had good things to say about Okoye after training him alongside Francis Uzoho for two days.

” He ( Carrapato) like Okoye a lot and told us by the sidelines how impressed he is by his sharpness and abilities. Like Peseiro said I think both Okoye and Uzoho are battling with confidence when they play for Nigeria. Carrapato also thinks the same way”, a backroom staff told OwnGoalNigeria.com.
