0

The planned transfer of Nigeria U20 midfielder Daniel Daga to Italian Serie A giants is looking bleak at the moment following the departure of Paolo Maldini as the sporting director of the team.

Maldini’s departure was announced two days ago and it has put a hold on the club’s transfer activity in the summer. He was the one who saw Daga in action for the U20 team of Nigeria and pushed for his signing.

He contacted a backroom staff of the team to inform him of the interested of AC Milan but said the deal will progress further after the U20 World Cup in Argentina or when Nigeria’s participation at the tournament ends.

Contacts were shared for the start of talks but his departure is coming after the exit of Nigeria from the tournament after a 0-1 loss to South Korea in the quarter final on Sunday. The expectation was for talks to begin this week.

Talks will now be on hold following his exit with Daga back in Nigeria with the Nigeria U20 team and looking at other options which includes teams from the Spanish LaLiga and also French Ligue 1.

Any deal for the 16 year old who shone brightly for Nigeria will be agreed upon now but he won’t be able to join them until he turns 18. Clubs are however still pushing to have him now rather than wait till he turns 18.

0

The future of several players in the senior national team of Nigeria will be in the news in the coming days when the transfer window opens in the first week of June, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.

One of the players whose future will be in the news in the days to come is that of the new right back of the senior national team of Nigeria Bright Osayi-Samuel, who currently plays for Turkish side Fenerbahce.

25 year old Osayi-Samuel has made the Super Eagles right back slot his own starting in the last three games of the team but at club level he hasn’t had that kind of run for a while .

Signed in 2021, he made a total of 37 appearances in all competitions last season but unlikely two seasons ago when he was an undisputed starter. He was introduced 13 times as a substitute this season and made just ten starts in the league. Six other times he was an unused substitute.

Despite his contract set to run out in two years time, Fenerbahce are opened to listening to offers for his sale with teams from England, where he started his career keeping close tabs on his situation. He is also open to a move back home.

For now English Premier League side Bournemouth appear to be ahead of the rest with a bid expected to be lodged in the coming days. It is believed that a fee in the region of £6m to £9m should be enough to tempt the Turkish side into selling.

It took his total goal count for last season to 21 in 38 games in all competitions as he scored 12 league goals for Lorient before his move to Nice in January. With all conditions met Nice have now triggered the option of signing him permanently.

He will join them on a five year deal with the option of another year for a fee in excess of €20m. It is independent of the €2m paid to Lorient as loan fee in January. Details of his earnings weren’t known to us as at the time of this report.

Arsenal star Bukayo Saka who is presently in Nigeria on holiday has asked fans of the senior national team of Nigeria to understand his decision to play for England ahead of Nigeria, OwnGoalNigeria.comreports.

He turned it down in preference for his country of birth, where he has since gone on to become one of the stars of the team. That hasn’t stopped him from explaining and calling for understanding over his decision to pick England ahead of Nigeria.

” I’m happy to represent England at international level but I am also proud of my Nigerian heritage from my parents”, he told Sky Sports.

“Choosing Nigeria over England would have been a tough decision. My whole family has been in England like forever, it would be very strange for me to adapt to an environment that I had never been at since growing up. When I grew up all my documents stated that I am English, hopefully Nigerian people will understand.”

That isn’t the case with the U20 coach Ladan Bosso who meet up with all of the requirements in his contract which ends with qualifying for the world cup. Nigeria put up an impressive showing at the tournament before they were knocked out in the round of 16 by South Korea.

His team’s performance has already earned him a stay as the coach or a possible elevation to the U23 team. Meanwhile the U17 coach Ugbade could be handed another chance according to sources in the NFF.

Despite the failure of his team , he received positive reviews from the NFF which could see him return into his role after failing to meet the terms of his contract, which states that failure to qualify for an tournament means the deal terminates automatically.

In France Lens who surpassed all expectations to finish second just one point behind champions PSG are not left out of the process of improving their squad for domestic and continental engagements. They are also bracing themselves up for a potential exit of some of their top players this season.

Key among them is Lois Openda, the 23 year old forward who scored 21 goals in 38 games last season. Already German side RB Leipzig have failed with a bid of around €30m, the expectation is that they will return with an improved offer.

In the light of a possible exit, the club has moved swiftly to open talks with Gent for Nigerian forward Gift Orban, who finished last season with 22 goals in 22 games following his January transfer to the club from second division side Stabæk of Norway.

Lens are facing strong competition from fellow Ligue 1 side Lille, who are already deep in talks with the camp of the Nigerian over a summer transfer as replacement for Jonathan David, who is expected to leave the team in the summer.

Lille could outbid Lens as they are considerably bigger but Lens are hoping that the lure of playing UEFA Champions League football will sway the Nigerian to pick them ahead of their rivals who are going to play in the UEFA Europa Conference League next season.
