The news making rounds quoting German-Nigerian defender Kevin Akpoguma saying he is not interested in playing for Nigeria is a result of bad translation according to Owngoalnigeria.com German contact Roland Mark..

Akpoguma was reported to have made the utterances in a television programme he attended in Germany after Hoffenheim Bundesliga game last season.

However Mark said the statement was taking out of context as the player didn’t at anytime suggest he is not interested in playing for Nigeria during the course of the interview.

” I feel honoured, I am German, I was born here and I should play for Germany “, were the words used by Akpoguma when asked about the option of playing for Nigeria according to Mark and not what has been widely reported by the media in Nigeria.

It means the defender would still be open to talks with coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Gernot Rohr who confirmed he will be speaking with the defender soon.
