Nigeria U20 defender Benjamin Fredrick put up another strong performance for English Premier League side Brentford helping them to a 1-1 draw against Benfica, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.
Signed on a permanent deal from Kaduna based Simoiben Football Academy, the 19 year old who initially hooked the team on loan to their B team is currently a part of the first team preparing for the strart of the season.
Five days ago he played in their first pre season game by coming on as a substitute in the 5-2 win over AFC Wimbledon. He did enough to earn a spot in the team that travelled to Portugal.
Yesterday he played the final 25 minutes of the 1-1 draw against Benfica coming in at right back as opposed to the left back role he played in their previous game, and he didn’t look out of place with his positioning, tackling, interceptions and passes.
His versatility has warmed him into the heart of the fans of the club, who took to X formerly known as Twitter to sing the praises of Fredrick who impressed for Nigeria at the U20 World Cup as a center back.
“Ben Frederick has done very well out there tonight”, a fan posted and it was followed by a post from another in agreement “Fredrick looks so calm, Konak has class”, he posted.
” This kid is gold, left back , centre back or right back. I love him already”, a post from another fan reads.
