Togo FA Insist- Orban Is Togolese, He Can’t Play For Super Eagles At AFCON

0

In the wake of the confirmation that Gent of Belgium forward Gift Orban is not in the Super Eagles provisional list of 55 players for the Africa cup of nations, OwnGoalnigeria.com suggest it has a lot to do with his true nationality like we reported in September.

A member of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) says it is true that there is confusion over the nationality of Orban, who was invited to the camp of the senior national team of Nigeria for first time in the build up to the 6-0 win over Sao Tome and Principe, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.

22 year old Orban took Europe by storm last season scoring 20 goals in 22 games following his January transfer move from second division Norwegian side Stabæk to Gent. He was rewarded with a first time call up to the senior national team of Nigeria.

Orban didn’t make the match day squad for the game with head coach Jose Peseiro saying he pulled up injured in their penultimate training. It however appears there is more to it than what meets the eyes.

Speaking on the non invitation of the forward for the upcoming friendly games against Saudi Arabia and Mozambique respectively, the NFF technical committee member said Orban might not play for the Super Eagles anytime soon.

” We received a correspondence from the Togolese FA with documents showing that he is from Togo and even though we know he has Nigerian roots through his father, there are some other stuff around his invitation that requires clarification”, he told OwnGoalNigeria.com in an exclusive chat.

” I am not sure he will get to play for the Super Eagles anytime soon. That issue is way bigger and could have a huge consequence on his career if we don’t treat it with caution. For now we have not make any further attempt other than leave him out”, he concluded.

Despite recent reports suggesting that he has been given the all clear to play for Nigeria, his omission from the AFCON provisional list is connected to the case with head coach of Nigeria Peseiro not entirely convinced by the explanation of the forward on the issue.

Peseiro Sticks With Uzoho For AFCON, Omonia Nicosia Begin Search For His Replacement

0

The coach of Cyprus side Omonia Nicosia Sofronis Avgousti has praised the form of Nigeria international goalkeeper Francis Uzoho, who is set to continue in goal again when they take on Karmiotissa in the league later today, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.

Uzoho covered himself in glory in his start for the club last weekend with his man of the match performance ensuring that they picked up a 2-0 win over Nea Salami.

Ahead of their game against Karmiotissa, the coach confirmed that regular first choice goalkeeper Fabiano is still unavailable and he has absolute faith in the Nigerian to post another top showing.

” We have seen him (Uzoho) moved up a level in terms of preparation and training for games. Sometimes you are at your best when you get games and he has that now. So you will see a different Uzoho next year”, he said in the pre match conference.

He however stayed silent when asked about reports linking the club with a move for another goalkeeper in the wake of the fact that the Nigerian will be away in January for the Africa Cup of Nations, and Fabiano possibly not fit.

” Getting someone is something that we will look at and we are already looking at possible options. However it all depends on the recovery of Fabiano and if Uzoho goes to the AFCON”, he concluded.

Lyon Step Up Effort To Sign Super Eagles Vice Captain In January

0

French Ligue 1 giants Olympique Lyon are keen on strengthening their squad in the January transfer window with the transfer ban placed on them due to administrative issues expected to be lifted soon.

The former French Ligue 1 champions are placed 18th on the 18 team log in the league after a poor start to the season which has seen them lose nine out of the 15 games they have played this season, leaving them with just ten points after four draws and two wins.

According to L’ÉQUIPE, Olympique Lyonnais will finally receive an update from the DNCG, the National Directorate of Management Control, regarding whether their payroll and transfer control measures from last July will be lifted for the Winter transfer window.

An audition between Lyon and the DNCG was held at the Professional Football League headquarters, with both parties reportedly satisfied by the outcome, though a few details remained to be dealt with, specifically regarding missing documents for a “stay of proceedings“, still according to L’ÉQUIPE.

Lyon will be hoping for a positive outcome, as the club is looking to invest heavily during the transfer period, after not having been able to do so during the Summer, opting instead for low-fee transfers and loans to strengthen their squad. If the claims are lifted, they will be able to tap into the €100 million or so that they collected during the summer, notably through the sales of Bradley Barcola and Castello Lukeba to PSG and RB Leipzig respectively.

Rather than wait till the summer to seal a deal to sign one of the vice captain of the senior national team of Nigeria in Moses Simon, they are keen on testing the resolve of Nantes with a bid in January.

Simon who will be out of contract next summer is a free transfer target for lot of clubs in France and also in Germany, Italy and Spain. He is also courting interest from Saudi Arabia.

However only Lyon appear to be keen on testing the waters with a bid in January for the 28 year old for the winger, who has a total of 25 goals and 27 assists in 138 Ligue 1 games for Nantes since his move five years ago.

Super Eagles Invitee Miss Out On AFCON Spot Despite Breaking Mohammed Salah’s Record

0

Gent of Belgium striker Gift Orban who holds the record for the fastest hattrick scored in UEFA competitions isn’t in the Super Eagles provisional list of players for the Africa Cup of Nations.

Orban whose international future is shrouded in controversies over his true nationality with Togo laying claim to him broke Mohammed’s Salah’s record with a hattrick against Istanbul Basaksehir in this season’s Europa Conference League.

He set the record when he scored a hat trick within 3 minutes and 25 seconds which is faster than that of Salah who bagged his in  6 minutes 12 seconds in Liverpool’s Champions League encounter against Rangers last year.

The record still wasn’t good enough for him to be considered for a spot in the Super Eagles 55 man list. Orban is presently among the top scorers in the Europa Conference League with five goals .

Head coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Jose Peseiro forwarded a 55 man list of players to the Confederation of African football (CAF), from where he will pick his final 27 man list for the tournament in Cote d’Ivoire next year.

NFF Explains Why Super Eagles Provisional List Of Players For AFCON Isn’t Out In Public Yet

0

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is one among the many nations competing at next year’s Africa Cup of Nations who are yet to make public the provisional list of players for the tournament.

Yesterday a host of countries revealed the names of the players on their 50 man list for the tournament in Cote d’Ivoire. The list will be trimmed down to 27 before the start of the tournament next year.

Nigeria’s list has been officially forwarded to CAF in line with the deadline set by the organizers of the tournament, but it hasn’t been made public as expected by many followers of the team.

A chieftain of the NFF in a chat with OwnGoalNigeria.com explained why the list isn’t in public domain, but said things could change if they decide to use another approach unlike previous years.

” Already the clubs with players on the provisional list have been notified. I can’t remember at anytime when the NFF made public the provisional list of the Super Eagles for any tournament. The ones that will be in the camp in Dubai will be made public” , he explained.

” For now I can’t say if it will be made public or not but it shouldn’t be an issue because even in previous years it wasn’t made public”.

He Is On Fire – Coach Of Ajax Praise New Super Eagles Striker After Brace In Europa League

0

Head coach of Dutch side Ajax John van’t Schip has praised Chuba Akpom for his brace in their 3-1 win over Greek side AEK Athens in their final group game of the Europa League.

Akpom who could easily have scored a hattrick in the game found the back of the net in the 5th minute but the Greek side leveled later through Levi Garcia six minutes later.

Kenneth Taylor restored their lead nine minutes later, a lead they held until the half time break. In the 56th minute Akpom grabbed his second and his team’s third of the game to put scores at 3-1.

A win which sealed their spot in the knock out round of the Europa Conference League as they finished third, avoiding an exit from European football totally this season.

Speaking after the game Schip said Akpom has really settled down to his new surroundings and his run in front of goal, where he has five league goals from 11 games all coming in his last seven games is a testament. He also has three goals in the Europa League this season.

Listed in the provisional list of players by the head coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Jose Peseiro for the Africa Cup of Nations, his coach feels he can only get better from where he is now.

” You see he (Akpom) now feels more confident in front of goal and also more at home with the language, culture and people at the club. He can only get better and we will see his best version soon”, he said in quotes made available through the Dutch media.
