0

Ligue 1 giants Marseille have their sight on Nigerian striker Simy Nwankwo as part of the revamping of their attack, OwnGoalNigeria.com understands.

29 year old Simy scored 20 goals in 38 Serie A games last season for Crotone who were relegated at the end of season sparking a scramble for his signature.

Although Fiorentina are presently the favorite to sign him in a deal worth around €10 million, Marseille have sounded out his advisers of their interest in having him as well.

However, their interest is base on the proposed departure of Dario Benedetto who is expected to leave this summer after failing to settle down in France.

Signed from Argentina side Boca Juniors in 2019 he hasn’t hit the ground running as expected and with the club keen on a strike partner for Arkadiusz Milik, Simy is one of the options.

The Nigerian won’t come cheap and with Marseille having financial difficulties, the deal for Simy is solely hinged on the departure of Benedetto.

0

Coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Gernot Rohr says he doesn’t expect the home based players picked from the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) to beat Mexico in next month friendly.

Nigeria will approach the game with an entirely home base squad as first reported by this portal and Rohr says the emphasis of the July 3rd game is not to win but to see how the players cope against quality opposition.

He said beating Mexico with players picked from the NPFL isn’t something that is realistic so he will be watching the team that will be handled by Austin Eguavoen to see if there is any new player who can be a part of the main team.

Rohr also allays fears that defeat in the game will affect Nigeria’s FIFA ranking saying the game won’t count maybe due to the fact that it is going to be played outside the international window break.

“You cannot play against Mexico and say you will win it with these home-based players. It is not our A team and it will not count for FIFA rankings. The most important thing is not the results but to test the players discover new players and evolve new tactics.”

Agent Of Reading Star Michael Olise Infuriates Rohr, Told Playmaker To Halt Plans Of Playing For Nigeria

0

The coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Gernot Rohr is seemingly unhappy with the conduct of the agent of Reading playmaker Michael Olise.

Rohr had talks with the player’s parent and later the player himself over playing for Nigeria which he accepted and was even named in the squad for the last round of AFCON qualifiers.

Due to travel restrictions and passport issues he was placed on standby in the list but subsequently even when players withdrew from the Nigerian team for their last friendly game against Cameroon, he wasn’t considered.

OwnGoalNigeria.com gathered that he has suddenly developed cold feet over the plan to switch nationality to Nigeria as his agent feel he is better off waiting for a chance with the French team.

With one Under-19 cap for France to his name, his representative felt a move to a top team this summer which is very likely will put him in pole position to win more caps for the French youth team.

It is why he has asked for some time to reconsider the option of playing for Nigeria which he earlier accepted. His recent decision hasn’t gone down well with Rohr.

There is also the option of playing for Algeria but that isn’t much an issue like the words of his agent who is keen on his client sticking to his dream of playing for France at least for the main time.
